I live in Baltimore and have a bunch of buddies down here that are Redskins...I was talking to one of them about Carlos Rogers and he had a couple things to say:
1) Like some of us stated yesterday, he has hands like stones and dropped at least 6-7 possible picks last season. He believes Rogers is the victim of poor db coaching in Washington though. With the right coaching Carlos Rogers has the potential of becoming a top 10-15 cb in the league.
2) He has good change of direction and is fluent when opening his hips in coverage. Is above average at bump and run and can stick with WRs throughout the route
Here are a few quotes from a radio interview he had back in May:
“I ain’t never discounting the Redskins, but my mindset right now is that it’s time for a change,” Rogers said. “I don’t think I’ve been as appreciated as I should be in that organization, not by everybody. I’ve always been the No. 2 corner, but I’m the one they put on a guy they want to shut down.”
Rogers elaborated via text message to Chris Russell of ESPN 980. “I wasn’t the corner that gave up the most TD’s or yards or first downs,” Rogers said, “but I’m the corner that is looked at [as] the 2nd corner, [that] I need to be replaced.”
I think it sounds like he still has some untapped potential even with 6 years of game playing experience under his belt. We need to put up or shut up and get this guy signed today. Period!
