Well, so much for Aubrayo Franklin and the tweet heard round the world. Adam Schefter has tweeted that Franklin signed a one-year deal with the New Orleans Saints. As has been said on Twitter, either the info was wrong or Franklin was going to re-sign and the Saints swooped in to sign him. Whatever the case, he's not going to be a member of the 49ers in 2011.
The 49ers now look at a defensive line that will likely be Justin Smith, Isaac Sopoaga and Ray McDonald. It will be interesting to see how Ricky Jean-Francois is able to work his way into the mix. Sopoaga has his strengths but a hamstring strain has kept him out of practice.
Is it possible RJF could swoop in and snag the job with a strong performance over the next few days? Last year he had a strong camp but was always going to lose the job back to Franklin when he signed his franchise tender. A year later, that hurdle is out of the way. Ice was told he's the starting nose tackle at this point, but things can change. Who do you think will be the nose tackle on September 11 against the Seahawks?
