I really hate the preseason. I'm excited for football but there's no real games so I have nothing to do with my excitement. That's why I'm writing my very first fanpost.
I started thinking about what bothers me about our beloved franchise, and I think the problem is that we seem to have a lot of potential, but it's not paying off. I started thinking about all the first round picks we have (we just added two more with Carlos Rogers and Donte Whitner), and realized that if you went by where our players were drafted, our team "should" be stacked.
I decided to look up the 49ers projected starters draft positions and then average them. The average draft position for our offense was about 41, our defense average was about 70 for an overall average of about 55. I'm way too lazy to do this for all the NFL teams, but I'm guessing this is near the top of the league.
After the jump, I will post my projected starters along with their draft position. I'd like to hear people's opinion on why all this "potential" hasn't led to better play. Also, if anyone has a source for average draft position for the rest of the league I'd like to know that, too.
One interesting thing about our defense is that we have three top ten pick's from other teams.

I think next time the Niners are on in the regular season I'm going to start a drinking where I drink every time a former top10 pick's name is called. I should be pretty drunk by halftime.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors.
