Golden Nuggets: Game Day Against The Houston Texans

First off, just a reminder that you can download the brand new SB Nation iPhone App for free in the iTunes store. I want to keep pushing that so we can get the SB Nation iPhone App up to number one among sports apps. Early on it was second only to a fantasy football app, so it's getting close!

It's gameday here at the Nuggets as the 49ers get ready to face the Houston Texans tonight at Candlestick Park. I suppose the final score really doesn't matter, but I'd like to see some more positive work down in the red zone, or even a little further back in what we have called the "Vernon Zone" for a couple years now. While the red zone covers the end zone to the 20 yard line. The Vernon Zone extends out to the 35-40 yard line. It's basically the area where Alex Smith and Vernon Davis have been able to set up the often successful seam route Davis often turns into touchdowns. It's my favorite play to watch because we get to see Vernon Davis' strength and athleticism all together.

Morning people

Anyone know where I might be able to watch the game online? I typically avoid begging for links (and I have cable and live in NorCal so I get all the games anyways), but thanks to Irene, I will be driving to, then stuck at, work at game time. It seems moot to shell out 20 bucks for the pre-season package now, so if anyone’s got suggestions I’d love to hear em.

Kaep may become our Staubach, but Alex is our Craig Morton...

Ninjames on Anthony Dixon's Tweeting:
"He’s going for the ‘T’ key, he should probably turn to it, but he stops and checks out the ‘R’ key first, then doubles back for a look at the ‘Y’ key, then by the time he decides to go back to ‘T’ to get some words typed, he’s brought down for a two-yard loss, ending up with the ‘G’ key."

The package is prorated

so the cost should only by $10. I bought it last week for $15 but the 49er game was blacked out for some unknown reason. Better not be blacked out tonight.

P2P4u.net is where I ended up watching it but it’s a crappy feed covered by all kinds of pop ups.

blackouts

http://preseason.nfl.com/nflpl/help_en_US.htm#BLACKOUTS

The games only get blacked out if you are in the local market ( have access to it on tv ), or it is nationally broadcasted.

Where do you live that it was blacked out last week? ( it wasn’t for me )

Rams offense looks like it's going to eat up "bend but don't break" defenses

Hopefully by the time they play the 49ers defense is firing on all cylinders.

Dink, Dunk, Repeat

It’s all on our safeties.

We start pressing these guys and the short timing game goes to crap — but we gotta have tight coverage over the top or we can lose a long ball.

if he does pretty sure the great beastly man called patrick willis will be there to clean it up.

Boy cannot beleive we still passed on him to get okoye. Is there anybody on your team we should keep a eye out for?

by southpaw70 on Aug 27, 2011 6:15 AM PDT up reply actions

But we hope its Kendall Hunter

by mcwagner on Aug 27, 2011 7:11 AM PDT via mobile up reply actions

that was the okla state running back right?

man he was good i will keep my eyes out for him. I know it is pretty good and bad thing were all i want to see is how our 4th and 5th wr battle turns out cause we have alot of good guys there. If we lose any of them you guys should take a look at them.

by southpaw70 on Aug 27, 2011 8:05 AM PDT up reply actions

we are pretty solid in the average WR department, its just finding out who wants to play like a number one. In the end, our number one receiving threat is our TE and I think Harbaugh will really make Davis look good.

by mcwagner on Aug 27, 2011 8:13 AM PDT up reply actions

that is true he killed us last time we met.

hopefully we can fix that this time around. so is colin running alot?

by southpaw70 on Aug 27, 2011 8:18 AM PDT up reply actions

not a lot

when he does run it has been pretty positive

by mcwagner on Aug 27, 2011 8:27 AM PDT up reply actions

i can tell what has been killing us is draws.

if your team has scouted us that is what the should run with ease. i really like to see colin play and he will be a good player.

good luck to you as well southpaw

Interesting challenge for the Offensive line tonight

Like the Saints, the Texans will be bringing lots of blitz packages. They are in the first year with Wade Phillips as D coordinator, so they have changed things up, and if the other preseason games are any indication, they will be bringing a lot of pressure. So, it will be interesting to see how the O line has come together and how prepared they are to give Smith some time. If we see a similar performance as the Saints game, that would not be good.

by furiousd on Aug 27, 2011 11:50 AM PDT reply actions

you want to hear something funny.

we really have not blitz yet. now thats scary. and when i mean we i mean the Texans.
