Matt Maiocco shot out an interesting tweet today following a chat with Joe Staley:

49ers LT Joe Staley says defensive teammates tell him the new offense is "night and day," compared to last year with motions and formations.less than a minute ago via TweetDeck Favorite Retweet Reply

As the team continues implementing the new Jim Harbaugh/Greg Roman offense, one of my primary concerns has been the lack of time to fully grasp the offense in time for the start of the 2011 season. The 49ers open their preseason play later this week against the New Orleans Saints. This will be our first chance to really judge how the players are adjusting to the new offense.

For now, it seems like the basic concepts of the offense are already light years ahead of last year. I recall during Jim Tomsula's brief reign as head coach there was some mention about how players were actually amazed to see certain adjustments made during the game. Now we have an offense apparently providing different formations and adding more motion to the system. It's safe to say the Mike Singletary/Jimmy Raye offensive philosophies are well in the rear view mirror.
