Official NN Fantasy Football Thread
The regular season already kicked off Thursday and some of the folks out there already scored big with Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers in the shootout they had in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
This thread will serve as the official Fantasy Football thread throughout the season. So please do not post outside of this thread and make any new Fantasy Football Posts unless they are thoroughly fleshed out.
All FF discussion should be confined to this thread here.
Each week, I will post the match ups that the NN Staff has in our league. After the jump, I will post the matchups and then below that, the rosters.

Nope.
But I’l tell you this much: Josh Branco once got last place in Fooch’s fantasy league. O_o
We don't need 8 in the box. We have 52 in the box.
I was sad that I didn't get Phillip Rivers and had to settle for Brees
But then I watched Thursday’s game. That feeling is long gone

Well you guys are missing the most important matchup of them all

Questions, PLEASE ADVISE!
Start Alex Smith or Josh Freeman at QB? I was thinking Alex because the Seahawks D shouldn’t be as rough as the Lions are going to be with Freeman.
Also, start Houston Defense vs Indianapolis or 49ers D vs Seattle? I’m thinking Houston because Kerry Collins isn’t very mobile and should be in for a rough day.

Uhh Yes Panic!
Is this a 20 man league? I haven’t drafted in one league where Alex was picked up.
Start Freeman, the defense is a toss-up either should be good for you this week. Who’s left on the waiver wire at QB?
49ers D/Smith
I’m apparently in a minority but I think Collins could put up some solid numbers as Indy QB.

49ers/ Seahawks.
It’s prob gonna be a shootout. Expect the unexpected.

He's going to get sacked a lot
So it depends on how the scoring is set up.
Could put up 27 points and be sacked like 6 times and with 3 pts per sacks it could end up being a good start.

Josh Freeman, no question
Alex’s matchup might be better, but you don’t bench a true #1 QB for Alex Smith.
For today, go with Houston if your league awards big points for sacks.
Also, go find another defense.

Well I would hope so.
I’m not going to go out on a limb and say that for week1 though.
Looks like the Houston defense scored big points for him though.

For the first couple of weeks you're in trouble
None of those guys are likely to break out big in weeks 1-3 but should be better down the stretch run.
Is Jacoby ford still returning punts/kicks?
If so (and if your league gives points for returns) start him.

Help
Guys, I don’t know whether to start Owen Daniels or Mercedes Lewis. I already have Andre Johnson and Ben Tate, should i start a 3rd Texan or hope the QB’s in Jacksonville use Lewis more than anywone?
Go with Daniels
Lewis has never had a good game against the Titans.

Sooo
All week I was planning on starting Houston’s D. At the last minute I changed my mind because it seemed too easy. I agonized about it but ultimately decided to bench them. Currently they have recovered 2 fumbles and held the Colts to 0 points. 22 fantasy points AT THE HALF! I hate myself right now.
Oh yeah, and my distrust of Alex Smith goes deep enough that I decided to start Freeman over him. Of course, Freeman is now stinking it up. Again, I hate myself.
I guess fantasy lessons are learned the hard way!

Ended up getting 4 more points with them than I would have with Houston!

Big mistake on my defenses. Figured both saints and steelers would get enough sacks and picks to carry me
by mcwagner on Sep 11, 2011 12:08 PM PDT via mobile reply actions
I am getting it handed to me by Danny.
But he just has Felix Jones left…
I got Tom Brady, Shon Greene, Seabass, and New England D
Hope it’s at least interesting at the end.
Right now, I trail roughly by 50 points.

I would like to thank Howtheyscored
for falling flat on his face this week. First round pick not playing? No problem! My opponent will tank for me! WRs having a terrible week? No problem! My opponent’s entire roster will return the favor!
P.S. The post needs to be updated. I dropped Robbie Gould for Lawrence Tynes (kicking myself for that) and someone else picked him up. Also, I benched Arian Foster for Fred Jackson, and Howie played the KC defense over the Jets.

Story of the Week: CK7 getting crushed by me Week 1. He yacked, yacked and yacked about setting the draft date perfect for him so I accommodated his desired date … than he doesn’t show up. Felt good to paste him the 1st Week for his draft day no show.
Should I start
Phillip Rivers vs. NE or Eli Manning vs. St. Louis?

Rivers.
He’s better, and the Rams have a better defense than NE.
Also, I’m up against Manning this week so he’s obviously screwed.
We don't need 8 in the box. We have 52 in the box.
In need of advice
Jamaal Charles is going up against a very good Detroit defense next week but he’s still projected to get some decent points. My gut tells me to bench him in favor of James Stark… Thoughts?
I'd go with Stark.
I doubt JC gains much with that Detroit Dline. I forget where I read it but McCarthy admitted that Starks deserves more touches. I bet he keeps his promise this weekend.

Charles...
Tough call. I think Charles remains the higher ceiling guy. afrikabamboodie mentioned the Lions dline, but Charles is a guy who gets out to the edge and really uses his speed over the power. Starks is probably the safe play, Charles is the upside play. How do your other running backs look?
by David Fucillo on Sep 15, 2011 7:54 PM PDT up reply actions
I had Addai
But dropped him because I think Indy will be behind too many games to effectively use him. I ended up picking up Sproles instead because he seems to be the safety valve for Brees. I’m hoping that gamble pays out for me.
We have 2
For week 2, I have Sproles and Starks starting. I’m already taking a gamble with Sproles and I’m hesitant to do the same for Charles because of KC’s use of him last week. Detroit, I’m sure, has a far better D than the one they saw against Buffalo.
If it's PPR, start Charles and Sproles.
If it’s a standard league, start Charles and Starks. I assume you drafted Charles with your #1 pick. Don’t overthink it. You drafted him because you thought he’d be a stud. Trust him to be a stud.

exactly
Barring injury or a stupid pick (and Charles is not a stupid pick), you start Charles every week.

Saturday afternoon fantasy musings:
I think I believe in Seattle’s run D. Call it reactionary for what they did to Gore if you’d like. I think with a healthy Red Bryant and a banged up Steelers’ O-Line they have the talent to bottle up Rashard Mendenhall. The big caveat to this, of course, is that Pittsburgh’s defense could lead them to completely dominate time of possession. The other smaller caveat is the early east coast start time for the ‘Hawks. It’s not a slam-dunk by any means. But I do see a scenario where a buy-low opportunity for Mendenhall opens Sunday afternoon.
The Bills-Raiders matchup holds some interest to me. Like Seattle, I’m curious to see how what I view as a talented Raiders’ front seven holds up with an early east coast start time. If you’re a Fred Jackson owner, don’t bench him unless you’re confident in his backup.
Ryan Fitzpatrick looks comfortable in his second season under Chan Gailey. Gailey’s system is notoriously QB friendly, and deep leaguers should keep in mind that if Fitzpatrick takes a step forward this year, he’s going to bring more than Stevie Johnson with him. Two guys who could come along for the ride are thirteen feet of pass-catching in 6’7" TE Scott Chandler and 6’5" WR David Nelson. Most are aware of Chandler and his two TD grabs last week, but Nelson was also targeted 6 times (tied for the team lead with Johnson) and hauled in 4 catches for 66 yards. WR Donald Jones was the recipient of three endzone targets in Week 1 as well. Keep that situation monitored. At this point we’re either looking at a New Orleans-lite fantasy scenario, or one of these three will step up into legitimate fantasy starter territory.
On the subject of pass-catchers getting a bump with their QBs, I am shocked at the lack of love Nate Burleson has gotten this year. He was a top-50 scoring WR in both standard and PPR leagues last year, and even with everyone all hopped up on Matthew Stafford (myself included) no one bothered to bump Burleson into the top-40? He’s still only 55% owned in Yahoo! leagues. I see 800-900 yards and 8 TDs coming this season. Start him this week with confidence against the Berry-less Chiefs, especially anyone with Colston and Amendola issues (and to a lesser extent, Dez Bryant, Santonio Holmes, and Brandon Lloyd issues). Jacoby Jones is another solid injury replacement for this week if Burleson is gone in your league.
Well, that’s all I’ve got for now. I’ll answer any last minute who-to-starts/plug n’ plays if you want, give my thoughts on any specific matchup, or I’m happy to just shoot the breeze about fantasy football in general. If people like this/care in the slightest I could put something similar together weekly. Hope you find some part of it useful.

I was looking to draft Nate Burleson before Tre got him.
If you’re a Fred Jackson owner, don’t bench him unless you’re confident in his backup.
So what if I’ve got Fred Jackson, Arian Foster, and James Starks vying for one spot? Right now I’ve got Jackson in there.
We don't need 8 in the box. We have 52 in the box.
Just one spot?
Foster. If he’s playing, you start him. Of course, double-check his status right before kick-off and hitting up the ESPN injury blog isn’t the worst idea either to make sure he doesn’t aggravate anything in pregame warmups. That happened to me with Ryan Torain last year. Took a big fat zero. But all signs point to him getting 20+ touches this week, so Foster’s the one.
"My father's name is art, and my name's pride, and while my destiny reads a recipe for confusion I'm looking for whoever writes, so empty inside." -Slug
Two starting spots
but there’s no way I’m benching Peyton Hillis against the Indy run D, so everyone else is competing for one spot.
We don't need 8 in the box. We have 52 in the box.
Yeah, Hillis and Foster is the way to go there.
"My father's name is art, and my name's pride, and while my destiny reads a recipe for confusion I'm looking for whoever writes, so empty inside." -Slug
wow
I’m glad I chickened out when I saw Arian Foster still listed as questionable. Fred Jackson is tearing it up like nobody’s business.
We don't need 8 in the box. We have 52 in the box.
