Around SBN: Win or Lose, Boston Celtics' New Big 3 Era A Success

The new and improved rating which weights things such as situational plays, sacks, yards after catch, etc., is very high on Alex Smith this week. Looks like he executed the game plan pretty well.

That's really interesting.

Alex definitely had the best game of all the QBs in the West, but I didn’t expect the new QBR to reflect that, mostly because of the lack of TDs. I’ve suddenly gained a newfound respect for the stat.

It's only fair, right?

Alex wasn’t called upon to pass much in the red zone. He had a rushing TD, which should count for as much as a red zone passing TD and for more than a 5 yard dumpoff with a 50 yard run after the catch. He led scoring drives that equaled 19 points in 10 possessions…that should count for the same as 2 TDs with 2 point conversions and 1 FG in the same amount of possessions. It’s a very, very good stat.

kolb still would have had more yards than smith and still would have been the best qb on that sunday.

nice

I was wondering how that kind of game would look in this new rating.

if the game plan = not throwing touchdown passes then I would say that is about right.

One thing I have learned in my life, is when a guy doesn't like said player on a team, it doesn't matter what said player ever does...

It is never good enough.

It amazes me to no end, that when the 49ers win a game and the first game of the year and in Harbaugh’s career as a head coach, that some would be so pessimistic towards the game….

You rip Smith as other have, yet say nothing for the horrible game Gore had. The guy that Harbaugh is counting on to lead this team, just stunk it up. Some of it was Gore and alot was the lack of running lanes created by the offensive line.

The one person that didn’t make any mistakes is the one targeted. It’s not like Smith was given many opportunities to pass the ball.

32 runs to only 20 passes is a very unbalanced game plan. The 49ers third down % was terrible, but most were runs, so you can’t pin that on the guy that hands the ball off.

Also, Smith made a very nice audible at the line creating a misdirection run for Gore and leading the way with a great block.

There were many times that Smith had a chance at a TD, but Harbaugh choose to run the ball.

The Seahawks are like the 49ers of a few years ago…Ok, last year too, they have a bad O but a great D. So Smith was playing against a great D and he played well. Someone pointed out that in the past few years, this was a game the 49ers would have found a way to lose. So I am happy with the win and look forward to seeing the 49ers O open up and put up more points.

it is really getting old that you always reply with nothing to add to anything.

why did harbaugh not call passing play? there has to be a reason for it. smith has been in the league 6 year plus and the coaches still do not trust smith to pass the ball down the field. maybe that will change this year maybe it will not.

the comment was about the game planning, I am sure they game planned to score touchdowns and not kick field goals.

you do not like me not talking about gore but I have read my post. but I will post here again that I do not think gore should have been extended but the team gave gore a very team friendly contract. gore had a horrible game and I think gore is on his latter stages of his career and is one play away from not being an nfl player anymore, yes one play.

this league is a passing league now, not a running league. if teams can not pass the ball medium to deep teams will attack the run making it very hard to run the ball.

smith was not playing against a great defense. earl thomas is their defense and seatle will have one of the highest numbers of points allowed this year.

and putting up 124 yards with one rushing touchdown is not impressive at all yet your opening statement sounds like someone had a career game. 500plus yards and multiple td passes is a career game.
