If you trust Smith, you gotta trust Smith!

Hi Guys - first post on here from a niners fan from the UK (so please be patient with my knowledge base!)

First of all, have to congratulate Harb on a great first win. Defence and Special teams were outstanding. However, developing a team like this is all about constant improvement and that needs to be looked at with regards the offense.

The first thing I would say about yesterdays game is, if Harb trusts Smith so much, he needs to trust him! One of my frustrations with the Singletary era was his obssession with Gore. Yes, Gore is a quality back and should be used as a weapon, but using him so often (every 1st down, alot of 3rd downs), just plays into the oppositions hands. I thought Harb did the same yesterday. Giving Gore 95% of the redzone plays is just far too predictable.

Now, some would say (and indeed Harb did) that this was all part of managing the game situation and getting the win. I can see that. However, to beat bigger better teams we need to use all our weapons. The frustrating thing about it was Smith was actually passing really well, better than I have seen in a long time.

One other observation - too many plays were started 5+ yards behind scrimmage resulting in Gore being lined up, or completed passes going for losses. As we say in rugby, 9ers should "play on the gainline" more.

All that said, if we get to the playoffs managing games like yesterday, I certainly wouldn't be disappointed!
