One of the best teams in the NFL... for now

I thought it would be nice to bask in our awesomeness after the first week of the 2011 season.  We haven't had much opportunity to do it in recent years.  Some of these stats could have a negative spin, but this is a positive post, so let's keep it that way.

  • 4th in the NFL for Kick Returns - I put this first cause Ginn clenched the Win.  We were the only team with 2 kicks returned for a TD. We had 4 returns averaging 44yds.  1st through 3rd ranked had only 1 or 2 returns.  Ginn is my hero.
  • 1st in NFL for Avg yds and Net yds per Punt - Andy Lee is awesome, that is all.  And our Special Teams is doing very well in the field position game.
  • 1st in FG made - That doesn't even count the 2 that didn't count due to penalties.
  • 1st ranked Defense in yards allowed per play - That is impressive.  There are 3 higher ranked defenses for overall defense (total yards allowes).  They were on the field an average of about 12 plays less.
  • 1st in Sacks per game - I think it is safe to say we have improved our game in this area.  Haralson and Smith are tied for 2nd in the NFL as of today.  Parys had 2 forced Fumbles to go along with them.
  • 2nd in QB protection in NFL - 0 sacks, 1 hit.  Only the Lions beat us.  You can guess their stats.  #3 had 1 sack, 3 hits.  So again, in case you missed it, 2nd in the NFL at pass protection.
  • 4th ranked Defense in yards allowed per game, pass yds per game, rush yds per game, forced fumbles and interceptions.  Okay, interceptions are a 17 way tie for 4th, but again, keep it positive.

If you find any more impressive (or seemingly impressive) stats from the game, post them in the comments.  The team still has work to do, but lets bask in the glory of our apparent Defensive and Special Teams Eliteness.
