Hey guys, I've been enjoying the pre-season banter from a rainy UK. I found the posts regarding Alex and Crabtree's less than polite nicknames particularly amusing - at times it felt like Dr Cox from Scrubs had infiltrated niners nation.
The reason for the post: I would appreciate some insights with a couple of bets I'm pondering. I find the NFL a particularly good challenge vs. the dull, predictable (and admittedly profitable) English premier league. Last year I did terribly, only picking 2 of the 8 division winners, altho I did have the packers to win outright.
I use a site where I can back and lay and love shorting highly fancied favourites (as I have done with Man Utd this year). At present, the eagles are 3rd favs for the SB at 8-1 and I think this is very tight given a) OL issues unresolved and b) teams being more prepared for Vick this year. I reckon their odds will widen significantly at some point during the season - what do you think, am I nuts?
Also of interest to me - the Cleveland Browns are available at 210-1 here and looking at their schedule this has the potential to narrow me thinks. First 6 games: Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Miami, Tennessee, Oakland, Seattle (and then us). Their schedule has a brutal finish with their final 5 games being the Ravens and Steelers home and away along with a trip to the Falcons. Obviously they wont win the whole thing, but the odds and schedule makes me think this could narrow significantly if their going well entering Dec - I would simply look to lay this off should this come into anything around 100-1 or less. Finally on the betting front; the Rams are 70-1 and the Niners 100-1. Seems a large spread to me, but what do I know....
On a seperate note, I've noticed that the troll spray has made an appearance in some recent posts and it made me wonder - which team(s) are the worst trolls...?
