10 very fun facts
1. The last 3 playoff games at Candlestick have all had game deciding plays in the final 10 seconds of regulation (the Catch II, the comeback vs the Giants and now the Grab/Catch III/Vernon Post).
2. In regards to the whole "defense wins championships is outdated," 7 of the last 11 superbowl winners posted top 3 defenses in terms of points allowed. Only 2 of the last 11 superbowl winners had top 3 offenses.
3. No quarterback in NFL history has ever won a superbowl while throwing for over 4400 yards in a season. The most is Peyton Manning's 4397 passing yards in 2006.
4. Including post season and the end of the 2010 season, Alex Smith has thrown 28 TDs to 6 picks in his last 23 games while leading the niners to an 17-6 record in that time frame.
5. This victory marks Alex Smiths 6th 4th quarter comeback victory this season.
6. The 2011 49ers join the 2000 Baltimore Ravens as the only two teams since 1991 to finish in the top 2 in rushing yards, points allowed and turnovers.
7. The 26 combined wins between the Saints and Niners marks the most wins between two NFC teams facing off in the divisional round since the Packers and Rams in 2002.
8. Excluding the 2004 Seattle v St Louis wild card match up, the NFC West has won it's last 7 straight opening playoff game match ups, dating back to the Rams loss to the Carolina Panthers in the Divisional round 8 years ago
9. Speaking of the NFC west, they are now 11-5 since 2003 against other NFC opponents in the post season.
10. Finally, the most fun fact by far: the Niners beat the Saints and are going to the NFC championship game!!!!!
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors.

here is another good one
@VernonDavis85’s 180 receiving yards are the most by a TE in a single game in #NFL postseason history.
I’ve never been more proud to have VD!

Good stuff
Especially #2. With the current rules, #3 will eventually fall.
- reminds me that the NFC West is the only division that has had a team play in the Divisional Round every year since realignment, and has won at least one playoff game in nine of the ten post-seasons since realignment (2002).
Elias reported that this was the Niners’ 19th home playoff win, matching the Raiders and Cowboys for second most in NFL history.
You gotta bring ass to get ass.
We dat team that beat them Saints!
Lets not forget that AleX and his mates ...
… . had Two 4th quarter come backs in this game …!!

Item 7,
27 wins, 26 regular season wins, but the Saints won the previous week versus detroit.
Another fun fact...
If the niners win this weekend, the “weak” NFC West will be the first and only division to send all 4 teams in the Super Bowl this century…
Technically, the Rams last made the super bowl the year before the restructuring, but they were still NFC West… And as a current member, it counts…
