Alex Smith? WTF?
OK here it is, to all those who never jumped on the Alex Smith bandwagon like I did - embarrassingly late: Nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener nener
And for all those who were behind Alex the whole time - I would like you to see me cry like Vernon Davis - but I didn't pull out the iphone in time, sorry. Hats off to all the Alex supporters on NN!!!! You were right the whole time, and I was wrong for most of it. I was even cursing the entire offense into the 4th quarter of this game. I tried so hard to remain calm.
To be honest ( I think I owe the world this, after seeing the honest emotions displayed by #85, Mr. Vernon Davis,) I wouldn't even watch the game that I DVR'ed while learning to prepare taxes to the poor, (otherwise known as people like me) until my wife came home from advancing her (much more successful than mine) career. I couldn't watch the 4th quarter of that game without her. She's been a real sport about helping me support my team. She even insists we make it to a couple games per year. I actually injured her hand on one high five.
So enough of honesty, let get to cold hard facts. Can we beat the Packers? Or the Giants? I think yes. I think the toughest team in the NFL besides the 49ers this week was the Saints. In my mind that leaves Alex Smith and the rest of the 49ers as the team to beat for the Super Bowl. Who's with me?

I still want an apology from at least 2 people
It wasnt that I always thought that Smith had the most talent, there was always apart of me that wanted everyone to just let up and be supportive of him for one year. Hes a soldier like no other.
i agree
i think there should be a post that calls out all of the blind haters and makes them come forward like they do in A.A. : “Hi, my name is so and so, and I’m an Alex Smith Hater” and then follow that up with a “And I was wrong about him” lol

I think I speak for all the "Haters" when I say.....
Congrats Alex! Way to FINAlly come through in the clutch. As for saying I and the rest of the folks on here who didn’t “support” Alex, pump your brakes. If you were truthfull with yourselves as much as you were biased in patting him on the back, you would agree Saturdays victory in his career is HUGE! However, it only took 7 SEASONS for him to show this moxie, control and grit. Yes, He played out his mind on Sat, but, we “haters” as you so lovingly call us, just called his play as it was. At the time….BAD! But, I am a big enough person to say that he had an awesome game, and for once, he rewarded his supporters with the talent we all kinda figured he had. But, we “haters” weren’t overly wrong either.

I think the title should be
“Alex Smith FTW!”

I would like to see how Alex plays with a legit #1 WR. Crabtree is decent, but probably no more than a #2 or slot receiver. Looks like another wasted first round pick there.
I wonder if we’ll even go for one of the upcoming FA WRs like Vincent Jackson or Dwayne Bowe, then go with #1/Crabtree/Morgan/Williams , or if we’ll try to get a guy in the draft instead
Hopefully we’ll have a front page article here soon/after we win the Super Bowl discussing our upcoming salary commitments, because I’m feeling nervous about the 1 year deals we have and who we’ll have to give how much to

I agree... But he'd be a DEADLY #2...
Would love Jackson or Bowe…
Nice choices...but....
If I had my druthers I say we get DESEAN Jackson from Philly. I know he seems to be a cancer in the lockerroom right now. But, he’s younger than both Bowe and Jackson. Faster than both other players, and can stretch the field better. He even has better hands. The only drawback to him is his height. Crabs is bigger as are Bowe and Jackson. But, in reality, we need a guy that can go deep past the coverage. The rest of these guys are all “hands” receivers. (if you want to count Crabs, his 3 drops Sat. were terrible.)

The Saints were turning into a major favorite for the title
all the way up until 9 seconds left in this one, NO had plenty of reasons to be confident in another run – the reality is that they were outmatched and outclassed in all the game aspects that the Niners possessed (and were poo-pooed for, for more than a few times), right up to the passing offense.
And that was where Smith and his receivers stepped up, and out-dueled Brees and his 60+ passing arm – no doubt the single biggest factor that kept them in this one – to the victory.
The 49ers are firing on all cylinders. The defense, the ST (what a ST!), and now BOTH sides of the offense are standing tall. Challenges lay ahead, but now no one can kid themselves by saying that San Francisco has no shot at Indianapolis.
Make it so.
Our special teams is out of this world...
Two all pros, the best field position in the NFL, and coverage units that let you get NOWHERE, and cause turnovers…
Our kicker and punter set the 2 most important records to their position this year…
If we’d had a few more TDs out of Ginn, you could easily argue this one of the best ST units of all time…
I was always behind Alex Smith
I never blamed Alex Smith for the bad situation the slumlord Yorks put the 49ers for 9 years. The team went thru hell and not every body survived.
Now, the team gets their shot at the playoffs and now they can really prove what they are made of. It won’t last forever— maybe only 1 more season after this one since the team is stuck in old, worn-out Candlestick Park.
