What to call IT????
OK, before Ray Fatto, Kawakami, Purdy or any of the other agents of doom from the local press tries to copyright OUR moment, I propose we get it done first. So, let's hear your thoughts. We have "The Catch." We have "The Drive." We even have "The Catch II." So, in the pantheon of Niner lore, what should Smith to Davis with 0:09 seconds on the clock be known as?
Not forgotten - Thirty years to the DAY
THE CATCH! Go Niners!

The Finish
I think of it as The Catch, The Throw, and The Comeback. For this team, the theme all season in contrast to seasons prior has been the ability to finish games. They did that in what ended up being one of the great back & forth finishes to a playoff game in NFL history.
You gotta bring ass to get ass.
We dat team that beat them Saints!
I just think there was a lot more to what happened than just the catch itself
It needs to capture the whole thing, and, really, including the PREVIOUS TD drive
Agreed
I kinda liked “The Finish.” Seems to sum it up well.

"The Redemption Reception"
J-RIDAH: Its not 1 player in this draft better than Monta or Lee. Anthony Davis is no different than Al Farouq Aminu. Andre Drummond could be good but he is not impressive at this point at all besides his size. This draft is hella overated.

The catch III
Not only have the niners showed that they had a amazing drive and catch with a playoff game on the line, but the Catch III showcases that the niners have done this on a consistent basis in the last 30 years, we are the only team that has done that. We are the amazing forty niners!

Honestly, the throw is more impressive than the catch on that play.
Obviously it’s a great catch and holding on to it through the hit is tough.
But if you look at “the Catch” it’s a miraculous catch. Joe barely got the ball in a catchable place and Dwight had to climb a ladder to go get it. Whereas this play required Smith to read a defender perfectly and throw a bullet with as little margin for error as you’ll ever see on an NFL pass, since there are two defenders close to the receiver.
Completely agree. All VD had to do was not drop it and absorb the hit, which wasn’t necessarily easy, but still something that he SHOULD have done, and did. Watch the throw in slow-mo, and Alex puts his heart and soul into it, and fires a perfect laser between two defenders right before VD gets lit up by the safety. Ballsy throw too considering they were in field goal range. Honestly VD’s been kind of bugging me by saying “ME” and “I” a few too many times in interviews. The Throw was epic, the catch was merely great. How bout you give a little credit to your QB.
I hear ya with the little VD gripe...
But he has gone on record on videos that “Alex is the man. He’s the man for making that throw because I wouldn’t have had the opportunity of making the catch.”
But he definitely needs to move on, by telling reporters to talk about another topic, and go concentrate on more important things such as the Giants. After the season is eventually over then go back & relive what you want.

I like "the Finish"
because that’s exactly what they did, they went out and finished the game.

It also pays respect to the role the Saints played. This ending of that game was awesome not just for the final drive -
- but for the final four drives.
I think it's a little bittersweet that "The Run" is getting overshadowed
Because it would have been great for Alex to have the run the winning TD in himself.
It’s gotta be something that encompasses the Run, the Throw, and the Catch all together.
So something like the Finish, the Comeback, or Redemption.
I'm also wondering if "The Drives"
Could work too.

A little long but...
Smith Gives Saints VD
I'm with you on that
Definitely “The Catch III”. Furthering the tradition of great Niners teams of the past!
"One game at a time. Let's just keep it rolling." Justin Smith
Vernon calls it the Grab
Who are we to argue? Catch 3 makes sense too.
Looking forward to seeing PWill and Crabtree join in on the fun in the next game. They gotta be feeling like they wanted to be bigger contributors. Look out NY or GB! We are not done!
I like The Catch III
Right after the play it reminded me of TO and I said that this is The Catch III.
Or maybe The Catch 2.5
Both of those catches were so similar, from it being less than 10 seconds left, both TO and VD crying after the play, and both plays coming on a 3rd and 3.
The Dagger?
Read this one in the Chronicle…thought it was ok.
I too thought the Catch 2 part deuce …and then immediately thought " I hope VD doesn’t end up like crazy TO"
"The Answer"
Every person watching the game wanted to know whether or not Alex Smith and The Niners could win this game. The Answer came with that play imo.
well they called it "The Catch III" during the Giants/Packers game
so I’m not sure how much of a say we are actually going to have in it lol

Okay there's no way it could be called anything else but The Catch III.
The Catch I came on a 3rd and 3
The Catch II came on a 3rd and 3
The Catch III came on a 3rd and 3

The Genesis of Alex Smith; The Emotional Reception
Late to the party on this, just confirmed my account.
I like to call the drive The Genesis of Alex Smith
and the catch The Emotional Reception
Agree with "The Dagger"...
The Saints wouldn’t die there at the end. Hats off to them in how they play but they just keep coming & coming on matter the previous outcome!! Look at that fourth quarter alone, 4 TD’s in a span of about 4 minutes. We all thought “The Run” by Alex was the eventual game winner but no Drew Brees & his merry men had other ideas. Very “vampirish” (yes suprised myself it’s a word), of the Saints in that 4th quarter. So Alex & the offense finally had to drive a “stake” into the hearts of this Saints team and their fans that there will be no more hope in eventually winning this game.

Red Zone Redemption?
It took the entire team to get it there. By the same token it was a singular act in the history of the game and should stand alone no matter what happens Sunday. I live a hundred miles away and felt the tidal wave of emotion rock my house…yeah a stand alone for sure.
