Official Community Thread [1/16/2012] I love you Ninersnation

Welcome to our twenty-third installment of the Ninersnation Community Thread. Here we can go into off-topics such as why do fingernails grow? Who sings when they are home alone? What is the origin of troll? So now our front page football topics will be about football (strange concept, I know). First rule is, do a fist pump! Second rule is that site decorum is still on. No talk into religion, politics, or dirty dirty. No personal attacks, racism, or sexist remarks. Images are allowed, just be tasteful and pretend Jamie Dukes is sitting next to you.

This is going to be like the draft threads so we can come back to a discussion so that means REC THIS! That is a good rule of thumb in any situation. So lets have some fun here. The new topic of conversation: A great idea was proposed by chris z to get to know each other better. As we venture to the playoffs it would be nice to know our new members and old ones. If you would like to get personal that is welcomed but don't be shy to at least state the anonymous info:

But you’ll have to buy me a plane ticket too, because I’ll be off in college at that point.

Here we go

Occupation: Retention Specialist

Age: 35

Gender: male

Hometown: Waterloo, IA

Story behind my screen name: Its not much of a story. Back when Halo first came out, my friends and I would link up our XBox and play some multiplayer. They were much better than me for a while but I slowly got better. My screen name was usually “ninja” or something along those lines. One day while playing, one of my friends mentioned that my play was so bad that I was the most haggard ninja they had ever seen. From that day on, I became “Haggardninja”.

How and when I became a 49ers fan: It was probably Super Bowl XXIII. My dad was cheering for the 49ers so I did. This is where I started getting interested in football.

How I found Niners Nation: I would often browse the internet at work usually through Yahoo! Sports and get my Niners info from there. I saw a blog post on that page and checked out the site and haven’t looked back since.

Favorite 49ers memory of all time and 2010 – 2011 season: All time was probably Super Bowl XXIX. I was always a big Steve Young fan and seeing him get that Super Bowl win was awesome. Runners up would be the infamous T.O. celebrating on the Dallas Cowboys star on the 50 yard line and “The Catch 2”. 2010-2011 season…probably Singletary getting fired.

Favorite 49ers player: So many to choose from! I’m gonna have to go with Frank Gore though. If we are talking all time, Steve Young or Merton Hanks. Much love for the former Hawkeye.

Last time I went to Candlestick for a game: Never been there.

Most disliked player of an opposing team: since Favre is finally gone, I’m gonna have to go with Ben Roethlisberger or Eli Manning. Big Ben because he’s overrated and his rape accusation history and Eli Manning because he’s a Derp. That’s the best way I can explain him.

Most cherished piece of 49ers memorabilia: Jerry Rice rookie card. I got it when i was collecting baseball cards in 1986. I picked up a few packs of football cards that year as well and got it in one of those. I plan on handing it down to my son when he is older and hope he does the same if here ever has a son.

Memorable stories about being a 49ers fan: Too many to list. Gonna have to go with this season and telling all the haters around here to “suck it”.

I'm in love with a man. A man called Harbaugh. Does that make me gay? Am I gay for Harbaugh? You betcha!

Jerry Rice

I can’t believe I didn’t mention him as a favorite player. He’s at the top with Young and Hanks behind him.

How and when you became a 49er fan:Watch my first Superbowl, where I really started to like football and it was SB19 Dolphins and 49ers, and living in FL I guess I would have become a Dolphin fan had they won, but the 49ers sold me as a youngin’ and I have stood by them ever since (if you knew me IRL I am a homer).

How you found NinersNation:Don’t really remember, be here for 3 years now.

Favorite 49ERS memory of all timen:Favorite all time was SB24 because I printed out cheesy dot-matrix flyers predicting the outcome of the score to friends at middle-school being 56-10 the week before the game, and low and behold it was 55-10, never have I ever made any other accurate prediction so close.

Favorite 49ERS player:Currently – Kyle Williams, All-time is Jerry Rice

Last time you went to a game at the ’Stick:Never been, but I have seen games in NOLA and AZ

Opposing team, player you dislike the most:Team Cowboys, Player Tom Brady

Interactions with 49ERS players:Only NFL player I ever met was Donnavan McNabb, he was respectably.

Most cherished piece of 49ERS memorabilia you have:Two many to choose from

Story behind your screen name: My friend created the name for my fantasy football team, just stuck with it for most online sports stuff.

How and when you became a 49er fan: When I first started watching football, it was around the Montana/Young transition. At the time, I had no family/friend influences for sports (because none of my siblings cared lol) and the “state” team was leaving for Indy. I just started watching Niners ball, really enjoyed watching the G.O.A.T. and appreciated the history of the organization and haven’t looked back.

How you found NinersNation: I believe it was through the Yahoo section for the Niners

Favorite 49ERS memory of all time and of the 2010- 2010 season: Favorite moments from my viewing time that I can remember would be the Catch II and Saturday’s game.

Favorite 49ERS player: All time, Jerry Rice, of the current team, I’d have to go P-52

Last time you went to a game at the ’Stick: Never, went to the Ravens game this year, saw a ton of Niners fans

Opposing team, player you dislike the most: hmm soo many to list, but mostly the Steelers and Cowboys (and sometimes the Ravens because I live in the area and have to hear their fans crap)

Most cherished piece of 49ERS memorabilia you have: I have a Jerry Rice player card, and used to have a Steve Young card on a plaque (not sure where it is)

Story: my life is chatic, it fit perfectly with the niners seasons until this year.
How I bacame a inner fan: born into it, blood line. Grandfather, father and brother are all niners nuts.
Found NN doing a search for blogs on niners.
Favorite moment of all time: has to be the catch. It ushered in a decade of being a Lee to make it past the Cowboys and being able to win it all.
Favorite player of all time: gotta be the GOAT Mr. Rice.
Last time at the ‘stick: there gotta be a first, first right? Never been there.
Most hated team: no question, Cowboys.
Interactions with 9ers players: met Jerry Rice in the tunnel at Ford Field prior to SB XL. I was on the color guard team for the game holding the nations colors. Big honor, big excitement to meet him.
Cherished niners memorabilia: have a rookie Joe Montana card mounted on a plaque. (Stay away I’ve got big dogs and guns at home, lol.)

Occupation: Finishing High-School

Age: 18

Gender: Male

Hometown: Israel

Story behind your screen name: It’s my name (Not very original, I know).

How and when you became a 49er fan: About four years ago Israeli TV started showing replays of NFL games, and I fell in love. After a season of just watching random games and not really following the NFL, I decided to get into the league more seriously. When I had to choose which team to follow, I decided to go with the Niners simply because I was born in Menlo Park, California, so they were the closest team geographically.

How you found NinersNation: Really not so sure.

Favorite 49ERS memory of all time and of the 2010- 2010 season: Don’t really have a favorite moment of all time as I haven’t been a fan for such a long time, so I’ll go with “The Catch III”. Absolutely epic. Me and my dad were going nuts.

Favorite 49ERS player: Wow. Great question. I guess I’d have to go with Patrick Willis as the favorite well-known player and Kyle Williams as the favorite less-known player. Willis is just a beast and KW is awesome on the field and seems like a great guy off of it. Crabtree also is up there. Also, Aldon is rocketing up the favorite player list.

Last time you went to a game at the ’Stick: Regretfully, I have never been at an NFL, let alone a Niners game. Hopefully I’ll manage to go to a game at the ‘Stick next season, as I’ll likely be somewhere around California.

Opposing team, player you dislike the most: Jets and Cowboys. Ugh. Yuck. Both extremely overrated. Not sure which one I dislike more.

Most disliked player would have to be… Hmm.. Really not sure… Is Rex Ryan considered a player?

Interactions with 49ERS players: None unfortunately.

Most cherished piece of 49ERS memorabilia you have: My Gore and Willis jerseys. My Gore jersey covers the back of my desk chair and never leaves it, my Willis jersey is on me every game day.

Memorable stories about being a 49ERS fan: Nothing really special that I can think of.

Other stuff that may or may not be interesting to someone:

I like eating frozen green beans and peas as a snack; eating them frozen is really refreshing, you should totally try it out. I have 5 cats and a dog. I’m pretty tall at 6"4. I Used to play lots of video games, not so much now. I love reading. Love (almost) every kind of music; I’m especially into old school hip hop right now but I love Jazz, Punk, whatever. If it’s good I enjoy it.

Plenty

My family goes every year. My grandfather lived in Tel Aviv himself but he recently passed away. I have a bunch of family in Kiryat Tivon as well as in Pardes Hanna, so most of the time we either stay around there or in Tel Aviv, where we have some friends at the University.

My turn

I am a health and safety coordinator
I am turning 28 in a month
I am a male from Turlock, CA (same as Kaepernick)
My screen name is my name so nothing special there.
I grew up liking the 49ers. My dad liked both bay area teams and is actually more of a Raider fan as they were good when he grew up. So I liked the 49ers without knowing why. In 1994 I started playing pop warner football. So I would study how to play by watching the pros. That was the magical season the 49ers went all the way and I felt a part of it by watching every snap. So I really became a 49er fan almost like a bandwagoner, lucky it was the 49ers.
When I worked a a cell phone store I was bored and browsed all 49er sites. This was by far the best. I lurked for a very long time before commenting.
Greatest 49er memory is currently the run by Alex Smith for the touchdown. After that I knew he would win no matter what. His defining moment will be remembered by his little jazz hands at his hips. To go from where we were to where we are all with the same key guys. This is a magical season.
Tom Rathman.
Last game I attended was 2005. Alex Smith’s first start against the Colts. Four interceptions. How far we have come.
The Dallas Cowboys. I enjoy the history of the game. The 49er/Cowboys rivalry is hands down the greatest in football. For that reason I root for them. I would love to beat them in the playoffs if they can get back in them. I hate Ben Roethlisberger for being rude and the sex stuff too.
When I was a kid I got Tom Rathman’s autograph. He didn’t just sign the card, he asked me if I played football, what position, how are you doing in school. Just a very nice guy to a shy kid with one word answers. Made a big impact on me that a superstar was nice and cared about me. Still have the autograph with my old 49er hats from the 80s and the front pages of the sports section of every playoff victory of the ’94 season.
Most memorable 49er story was the Harbagcolypse

I was born 1984, 49ers win SuperBowl. Brother born in ’88, same. Youngest brother born in ’94, victory. My daughter is born 2011… SuperBowl champions to honor tradition?

Story behind your screen name: There’s a Boston Terrier in my family that is very much beloved by everyone. Therefore it’s only proper that it seems all my screen names I’ll ever have are named after the dog that was recognized as the progenitor of the Boston breed. Hoopers Judge.

How and when you became a 49er fan: During the mid 2000’s believe it or not. They were absolutely horrible teams, but I starting watching them with my father after feeling sorry for him watching those games alone as my other siblings had no interest in football. I eventually became a fanatic for the 49ers.

How you found NinersNation: Followed a link from a Yahoo sports page.

Favorite 49ERS memory of all time and of the 2010- 2010 season: My favorite moment (other then Saturday) was probably the Monday Night game against the Cardinals when Allen Rossum returned the opening kickoff for a TD and Shaun Hill ran for a 1st down without his helmet.

Favorite 49ERS player: Shaun Hill, who’s no longer with us sadly. He’ll remain my avatar pic though. He represented the only good thing about the offense other then Gore. That was enough for me to love him.

Last time you went to a game at the ’Stick: Never been. Plenty o’ games at AT&T but not the Stick. Will eventually get to one before we move to Santa Clara though.

Opposing team, player you dislike the most: This is a tough one. The team is going to have to be a split between the Seahawks/Cards. But Detroit is closely becoming one I wish nothing but failure for because of Suh, Schwartz, and their fans. And player I dislike most is another split between Roethlisberger, James Harrison, and Vick.

Interactions with 49ERS players: Distantly related to Jeff Brohm, a 49ers QB from 1995-1997. During Brian Brohm’s career at Louisville was when people would always ask me if I was related to him, having the same last name will do that.

Most cherished piece of 49ERS memorabilia you have: Nothing. Do have a World Series baseball I purchased after the Giants 2010 championship. Will do something similar to commemorate the Niners season after it’s over.

Memorable stories about being a 49ERS fan: Nothing here either. I’ve been a fan of the team during their worst years. This is the first winning season I’ve witnessed as a fan.

I survived the David Carr Press Conference Thread 3/06/2010
And Harbamania. And the San Francisco Giants 2010 World Series season.

Story behind your screen name: mine is pretty obvious, my name is Lou and I’m all about the 49ers

How and when you became a 49er fan: I really started getting into football when I was 6 in the summer of 88, so when the season started that year I decided I needed to pick a team, I watched a few games but nothing caught my attention until I saw Jerry Rice catch a sideline pass and take it 50 yards to the house for a TD and the rest was history.

How you found NinersNation: I don’t really remember exactly how I came across it since that was a few years ago, but I’m glad I did.

Favorite 49ERS memory of all time: Super Bowl XXIX, I remember XXIV, but I was still a little young to understand the importance of what I was seeing. I was older for XXIX so I remember everything about it, and so far nothing has been able to top seeing Steve Young finally get the monkey off his back

Favorite 49ERS player: Patrick Willis currently and all-time

Last time you went to a game at the ’Stick: Never been to the Stick unfortunately, but I did see them play this year in Washington

Opposing team, player you dislike the most: Team – Cowboys, Seahawks and Lions. Players – Romo, Suh and I’ll always have a special dislike for B**** F****

Interactions with 49ERS players: Ken Willard came and spoke to my class when I was in 5th grade.(He’s from Richmond) I wore a Joe Montana 49ers shirt and he called me up on stage to be his helper after telling me he liked my shirt

Most cherished piece of 49ERS memorabilia you have: I have so much 49ers stuff, it’s hard to choose but I will go with my autographed Patrick Willis helmet

Memorable stories about being a 49ERS fan: It’s hard to think of anything specific outside of the Ken Willard story so Go Niners!

Alright:

Occupation: Student

Age: 23

Gender: Male

Hometown: None really, currently spend most of my time in Potsdam, New York.

Story behind your screen name: The username was assigned to me when I attended Corning, so due in fairly equal parts to my extreme laziness and lack of creativity, I have pretty much used it for everything since.

How and when you became a 49er fan: Pretty much born into it, in that I can’t remember a time in my life when I wasn’t a 49ers fan.

How you found NinersNation: I found NinersNation to be the most perfect site in existence, right about the time of the Super Bowl, nearly two years ago.

Favorite 49ERS memory of all time: Have to go with the win Saturday.

Favorite 49ERS player: Too close to call. It’d probably be one of Justin Smith, Willis, Bowman, Aldon Smith, or Andy Lee, and that’s not even considering retired Niners.

Last time you went to a game at the ’Stick: Never, I live in New York, and am far to poor to attend games in California.

Opposing team, player you dislike the most: Cowboys, Ben “Sexual Misconduct” Roethlisberger

Interactions with 49ERS players: None. [Sad Face]

Most cherished piece of 49ERS memorabilia you have: Just have hats, about six of them. Fairly standard hats, but they are awesome nonetheless.

Memorable stories about being a 49ERS fan: Seeing the 49ers epic victory over the Saints in the Divisional Round of the Playoffs, January 14, 2012. I wasn’t there, but I watched it on TV, and the highlights of it on youtube.com (here), and it was [site decorum] awesome.

Favorite food: Salsa, Lasagna, Manicotti, Stuffed Shells.

Favorite color: Red.

Favorite Type of Dog: Dogbert

Favorite Animal: Cat

Favorite Type of Cat: Mackerel tabby Example

Favorite Names for a pet cat: Emily, Prudence, Michelle

Favorite Nemesis: Seven

Favorite PunMaster: LondonNiner

Favorite Sport: Procrastination.

Favorite 49ERS player: Frank Gore.

Last time you went to a game at the ’Stick: Have not been yet. I would love to.

and feel free to share anything else. Favorite food, color, and type of dog, whatever.
I like a lot of kinds of food, and like cooking a lot as well. I don’t have just one favorite food, but I guess a great meal would be tortellini alla panna as the first course, a salad with lots of carrots, and then all-you-can-eat sushi. (I don’t eat meat)
One cat and one rabbit, plus eight goldfish several neighborhood cats that I feed almost every day.
Occasional member of a volunteer rescue team. Worked in the past as a journalist.
