DRAFT LUCK or Not !!!
Hello FAITHFUL Fans, l guess you're all on CLOUD 9 Like myself. For the whole decade we used to take all the insults, definitely this is the year we showed up. We don't give a damn anymore, we've got nothing to lose thats why we are playing with such Swagga. The 49ers Swagga & Mojo is back baby, baby. Now lets talk about the NFL 2012 Draft. Do you see us going all out to get LUCK no matter the cost. Is it safe to bet that we can give Indiana An Offer They Can't Refuse to out bid all other teams for their Numero Uno First Round Draft Pick - Safe to say they will be keeping Peyton Manning & won't require Andrew Luck that much ? Do we have history with Indiana in terms of Trade deals before ? Whats our relationship with them? Good News Is That they are in the AFC , and wouldn't mind us being perennial arch rivals so thats a plus for us.
Its quite obvious that we need to beef up our receiver corps with a larger than life Wide Receiver like the likes of Calvin Johnson (They say his Area Span Is Like A Garage). Maybe another Running Back to compliment Frank Gore. Thank God he didn't have any serious injuries this season. l dont know if Dashon Goldson is gonna stay with the Red & Gold, therefore we will need a Free Safety. l take off my hat for Donte Whitner, he has really dominated and put our hearts at ease. Its funny how this Grid Iron American Game of yours goes. Just last season we were thinking that Taylor Mays was being groomed for the Strong Safety Job, but Alas it was not to be.
Last but not least my fellow FAITHFUL Brethren, the 49ers are known for having Quality Franchise Quarter Backs. The Rate First Round Draft Pick Class 2005 Alex Smith is playing has he justified himself to be our Franchise QB? Do we need to pursue Andrew Luck from Stanford Cardinals, no matter what it takes? What do you think fellows. l'm just thinking the way that Coach Jim Harbaugh is so familiar with Andrew Luck, during the Draft Show, Combines, Wonderlic Tests, Team Interviews, Whats Coach Gonna Ask Andrew Luck, or they'll be just having a drink together. You know. Its quite obvious that either the Seahawks or Cardinals are gonna fight us tooth and nail for Luck. Is there a way Luck can just skip the draft and direclty sign with 49ers? l haven't watched him play that much, but they say he is one of the finest promising complete QBs to come out of College for decades. Whats your take, have your say at the poll below.

I chose "maybe" because...
I believe that as good as the Niners have been this season there are some positions that need addressing, particularly if we do not resign players like Ginn, Morgan and Goldson. My top three needs for the draft (if anyone cares) would be:
1. Free safety (considering we do not resign Goldson)
2. Fast, physical wide receiver. We’ve got our shorter shiftier guys in Crabs and KW, but we do lack a big wide receiver (built in the Braylon Edwards mold) to take the top off the defense and provide a good redzone target (precisely what Edwards failed to do).
3. 3-4 DE with potential that could ultimately replace Justin Smith after learning on the bench for two or three seasons. I love Justin but he is getting up there in age and I would say he has two or three years left in him as an All-Pro. Why not pick up a good, young player with great potential that could provide a smooth transition once the almighty Justin Smith decides to call it a career.
Now in regards to the Luck question. I have full trust is Harbaugh, Baalke and the tpcoaching stuff to make the right decidion
Accidentally posted, so here is the rest of it...
Decision. What I want as a fan is a franchise QB. Thus, if they believe that Kaepernick is the guy, I will support the decision all the way. However, if they believe that they do not have a French
Use QB currently on the team and know that Luck I’d that guy, I would fully support them n their move to try and acquire him.
I’m not sure the Clts would be willing to trade him but Luck could pull off an Eli Manning or John elegy (refuse to play with the Colts) if he knew he Nd the chance to play with his old coach.
Anyway, I would be happy either way and fully believe the coaching staff and FO will make the right call.
Nope
The only scenario I see this happening is if something happens to Luck and his draft stock drops tremendously. Trading up for Luck would damage this team for years to come in the draft. The Niners have enough needs that they need all the picks they can get to improve on their weaknesses.
I'm in love with a man. A man called Harbaugh. Does that make me gay? Am I gay for Harbaugh? You betcha!

Give me a big serving of NOOOO
Dynasties are built through the draft. The Patriot’s and Steeler’s have dominated their respective divisions for over a decade because they have built through the draft. You do not mortage your future on one player! Regardless of our success this year, our roster needs upgrading if we are to sustain this level of success. We need a starting RG, a 3-4 DE to succeed J. Smith, another pass-rusher who can also drop back in coverage, a RB to succeed Frank (this was probably his last year playing at a high-level especially with all the touches he had), and depth in the secondary.
Alex will continue to improve with continuity in the system and with roster improvements. He’s still fairly young and if he continues to improve there’s no reason he can’t be our Q.B. for the next decade.

First of all ...
… Indy isn’t going to keep Peyton and trade Luck. If anything, they’re going to trade Peyton.
Second, I can’t believe people are still focused on upgrading the QB position this week when we obviously have much bigger needs. RT and WR are huge holes. Really, the question for Sunday is going to be if Alex Smith can have a modicum of success despite Anthony Davis getting abused on any play, as well as the question of who the heck is going to catch the damn ball.
I wouldn't say WR is a "HUGE" hole...if Morgan comes back it's a solid group
and I don’t think people want to give up on Davis yet , he does have his moments in the run-game

THe WR issue is that we don't have a game-breaker.
I like Morgan. I think he’s a great third WR. I think he’s a reasonably okay second WR. And Crabtree is looking like a solid possesion receiver, but again, somebody you particularly worry about.
And Anthony Davis has to get covered for on nearly every pass play. He’s terrible. Yes, he’s young and could still improve, but you have to recognize that he’s not getting the job done. And you know what? He’s nothing special against the run, either – 20% of our runs are for no gain or a loss, and that’s on the offensive line. Not only on Davis, true, but on him as much as it’s on anyone. The notion that we have a quality running offensive line is just wrong.
And Alex Smith is. That’s the thing. Alex Smith, most plays, is making the right play. Anthony Davis is not. In that context, talking about putting together a massive package to go after Andrew Luck is silly.
bad vernon davis, bad vernon
THe WR issue is that we don’t have a game-breaker.

We have our man
As has been said we need to continue to shore up our line and draft some better receivers.

Too many holes
The offensive line played good some games and horrible other games, upgrade needed.
The secondary is in the same boat as the O-line, they need an upgrade.
kilgore will likely replace snyder; staley just made the pro bowl, baalke drafted Iupati and Davis, and goodwin was just signed
so oline being drafted high is highly unlikely and they have played pretty good

The OLine was horrible when Rachal played and during the Harbowl. They only really had one day of practice for that game.
Replacing Rachal with Snyder really helped the OLine and Davis. With a full offseason and the oline staying intact next year they will be better.
Kilgore could very well be our RG of the future. Not sure how Person will fit it long term so I would say draft someone who can play OC and Guard to backup those three positions down the road would be the best pick.
"Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, either way, YOU'RE RIGHT !"
Well ...
One regular poster who knows a lot about O-line play has gone into detail about Davis’s technique and lack of physical ability. Yes, Snyder is an upgrade over Rachal … but that’s not saying much.
Quite simply, there’s a good chance Davis is a flat-out bust. Remember how some draft boards saw him as a round three or later pick? Those concerns are looking like they might be accurate.
He’s still young enough that we can’t rule out improvement. But if we lose on Sunday, it’s probably going to be because of o-line can’t handle their D-line. In all of our losses this year, our offensive line’s inability to protect Alex long enough to set his feet was a major factor – it wasn’t just the Ravens game. Both the Ravens and Cards attacked the right side of our line with complex blitzes and they just failed to do their job. (The Cowboys loss was more about players just losing their one-on-one battles, and Staley owns an equal share of the blame there).
So if your goal is to spend a draft pick on the area of the team that most needs the help, how can it be anything other than o-line at this point, and RT in particular? Drafting a RT would give us the option of moving Davis to RG, where his lack of lateral speed is much less of an issue. Now Snyder is our primary backup which means we don’t need to panic when a lineman gets hurt (remember how we all felt when Goodwin missed a few plays … so Rachal came in, against New Orleans?).

After what we saw Saturday? You are going to suggest going after Luck?
Never you mind the whole we will be picking in the bottom 4 so it is nigh impossible anyway…
Draft talk is one thing, which still should be held off on IMO, but that’s fine. But the Luck nonsense is just that.

I think most fans love the draft, and draft talk.. but for now.. and hopefully a couple years down the road we have our starting QB in Alex Smith
I don’t see the Niners drafting a QB at all this draft let alone giving up the ship for Luck.

Regardless of your QB situation, you don’t move up from the last couple picks to take Andrew Luck, you don’t do that for anyone IMO. No one is worth that much without hindsight to help aid you.

The Falcon's moving up for J. Jones was a mistake...
The real issue with that team isn’t a “lack of explosiveness” at the skill positions…it’s that Ryan isn’t all that good, but they can’t bring themselves to see that

Wow...is this serious? lol
Just the pure thought of what would have to be given up in order to jump up to the #1 pick is team-shattering. The Niners would either be giving out their future drafts for the next decade, or every player worth a damn on the roster now.
They’ve proven they can win with the quarterback we have now, and I believe he’s only going to get better. Besides that, we have a potentially solid young quarterback on the depth chart behind Smith.
Sure, any team would be lucky (no pun intended) to have the opportunity to draft a quarterback like Luck – but you can’t sell the entire farm for one over-producing cow, which is exactly what SF would have to do to even consider a move like this.

HELL NO. ANDREW LUCK IS NOT A SHOE IN HALL O FAMER...!!!
"What the hell are you mixing in that look-aid"
Admittedly I'm not a NFL scout...
but from what I’ve seen of Luck he doesn’t have the ability to really fit the ball in tight window’s on intermediate throws…certainly doesn’t have the cannon Stafford has. I really don’t think Luck is going to be out-of-this-world like alot of people seem to expect

just wrong times A BILLION…
you ain’t the only one thinking it, but — and Luck may end up being a stiff, who knows — it’s just NOT TRUE.
lack of arm strength is the LEAST of anyone’s concerns about Andrew Luck. This silly notion will be put to rest within a month if he throws at the combine. He has a VERY STRONG arm.

Errr, no
The earliest draft position we can get is 29th. To move from 29th to 1st would require multiple 1st round picks and multiple lower round picks.
And Luck isn’t worth it. You’ve seen what Harbaugh has done with Alex Smith. He had years with Andrew Luck. That is a kid who is already polished and is at or very close to his ceiling.
Every time Jamie Dukes says something enlightening and informative about football Jerry Rice and I mount up on our flying grizzly bears and claim pirate treasure from the moon. That's how often it happens.
Actually, I think we have 30th regardless if we lose this game....
We lose (lower position) to the Pats on the tie-breaker for position if they lose to Ravens on same record + strength of schedule, and we lose to the Ravens on record straight up. I think we’re locked into 30th if we lose on Sunday, but that doesn’t matter because in my eyes, we’re locked into 32nd.

49ers and Patriots had identical SOS this year.
And they aren’t in the same conference, so the tiebreaker would be a coin flip at the combine.
We don't need 8 in the box. We have 52 in the box.

I mean not overrated to where he'll be a Leaf or Russel.
I think Luck will be okay to good in the NFL. But not the next Peyton Manning like so many people are saying.
Plus we have Alex. While Luck may have a better career than him, Alex is having his best season and is only 27.
To get the #1 pick we’d have to give up probably 3 1st round picks and maybe a few players. There’s no way he’s worth that.

We are in NFC title game.
I have seen nothing to suggest that we can not get back to NFC title games in the following few year with the QB that we have, especially if some improvements are made at WR and OL.
That is about as much as you can ask from a QB – get to the conference title game and have a realistic chance at SB. We got it.
trade 1st rounder?
anyone thought of trading the first round pick and starting a patriots thing by having 2 1st rounders every year?
Possible
I would trade back for a high 2nd and a 3rd or 4th but only if there is no one we can pick up were we are at that can help us. Like either WR from Rutgers or S Carolina. Maybe a DB we can move Culliver to FS if The Hawk walks and start the DB or have him be 3rd CB

You must have missed the game on Saturday...
I’ll refresh your memory in case you forgot: Alex Smith put up a performance which, if he did it in the Super Bowl, it would make him one of only SIX current QBs in the league with a SB MVP on their resume. And you would like to mortgage the franchise’s future for one player? Really hope this is a joke; we shouldn’t be discussing the draft at all until March when free agency is underway and near completed.
Serious...I mean serious
If you haven’t noticed there is an NFC championship game about to happen with quite possibly one of our teams most historic and hated playoff rival. Your post is MORE THAN ANNOYING for even bringing up the subject this week. Can you show Alex some support and loyalty after the GUTS that very few QBs will ever show in their career.
Relax London, ignore the comments, the problem is that most of these guys simply don't have any vision ... which may explain why they are where they are
1. Seemingly everyone assumes that the ONLY WAY to get the #1 draft pick from Indy is by trading a bunch of draft choices.
2. If you’ve spent any time at all studying Indy’s situation, you realize that, given their roster disaster, the last thing that they need to begin to turn the ship around is a rookie QB … even Andrew Luck. With what they’ve got right now, Luck will spend the first two years of his career, if not longer, on his back, if he doesn’t get maimed in the process. What they need is the addition of A LOT of decent , non-rookie players … at almost EVERY POSITION. Draftees, no matter how good they are, cannot solve Indy’s monumental problems.
3. I agree that the Niners have multiple additional needs — primarily WR, CB, OLB, S, OG — but I believe that the Niners can get Luck AND retain their existing draft choices to address these needs.
4. It doesn’t take giving up Patrick Willis, et.al., to package a group of young veteran players that will go a long way in helping Indy rebuild the roster — including QB — and become a decent team THIS YEAR.
5. I admit that this is not the “traditional” or “normal” approach … you must be able to think outside the box. Most of these guys can’t do that. The entrepreneurs who built Silicon Valley, including me, would understand and be enthusiastic about the possibilities … but, alas, it won’t happen here. However, you are not alone!

lol... You're still workin' it, huh?
same issue in this post…
not a REALISTIC scenario given in how we’d obtain Luck.
Right off the bat… “Manning will stay in Indy of course” or something to that effect. Uhhh, not if what I’m seeing plays out.
Indy seems to be getting set to dump Manning and his $28-MILLION roster bonus. They’ve BLOWN OUT EVERYONE in the building, including Manning’s rehab coaches/trainers/etc. It’s rebuilding time in Indy. Every concievable sign shows that they’ll be STARTING OVER.
Indy will draft Andrew Luck and start from scratch like they did w/Manning years ago.
Sooooooooo… By all means let’s THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX. Sure, let’s take a crack at it. But FIRST PROPOSE A DEAL THAT INDY AT LEAST HAS TO TAKE A LOOK AT.
Indianapolis is only drafting Luck for a COMBO of SUPERSTARS and MULTIPLE #1 PICKS. Luck ain’t goin’ anywhere for Alex Smith, Joe Staley, Ted Ginn, Chilo Rachal, T.Brown, and Shawntae Spencer (lol at the thought of a team TRADING for Chilo and Shawntae) and a 30th pick in 2011.
