Stormy Weather and a Muddy Field- Advantage to Who?
So it looks like for the first time this year Candlestick will be a mudder's paradise. Having been a 49er fan since the beginning of the Bill Walsh era, I've seen the "STICK" create lots of problems for the visiting playoff teams as well as the 49ers. Players get proud sometimes, refusing to where the deeper cleat that slows them down for the first half of a game, and then switch at halftime after slipping, giving up a huge play and the damage has been done.
Normally a wet muddy field favors the Offensive line and Wide Receivers. They know where they are going obviously.
Running Backs who make strong cuts, and dart in and out of holes struggle to maintain balance. Where as big, physical backs that run straight ahead can have great success.
Let me know how you think a muddy field and breezy rainy day will affect both sides in this one.

49ers get to practice in it for the 3 days prior
so that helps
I think if it is actively raining during the game that helps the 49ers. If it’s just muddy, then I think it’s basically a wash.
I think the stick used to have more issues when it was wet. Drainage seems better now, the grass is much more consistent and doesn’t have to deal with baseball field sodding issues.
The game isn't played in your mind's eye. Stop telling me what you don't "see."

I think it benefits the NYG offense most
The wet conditions could slow down our pass rush and our secondary. This in turn would give Eli and his great receiving corps a field day.

Totally disagree
The wet conditions will slow down guys like Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks, making them be more deliberate with their cuts, and giving the hard hitting Niner secondary plenty of opportunities to tee off with some huge hits. The Giants passing offense heavily relies on hitting one or two “homerun” plays per game (Hail Mary, anyone?) and those opportunities will be fewer than normal for them, and when they do take them, the chances of Eli making one of his typical “what were you thinking” throws that this ball hawking defense will be all over.
On top of that, the Niners are getting to practice in this wet weather, whereas the Giants can “dunk some balls in a bucket of water” as Tom Coughlin suggested they may have to do.
Both teams will be battling the same elements come game time, and by your logic, it’s going to slow down THEIR pass rush and secondary as well.
The rain is most definitely an overall advantage for the 49ers

*correction
*chances of eli Making one of his typical “what were you thinking” throws that this ball hawking defense will be all over goes way up.

Our pass game will benefit yes, but the Giants' pass game is better.
Also the WRs know where they’re going on their routes. Wet conditions are bad for DB’s who need traction to react to routes and stay in coverage. Everyone in the passing game is slowed down more by the mud (same as snow) but DBs are really hurt by it because they can’t react as quickly.

But what you're not considering....
so the weather is just going to completely negate one of the best defenses in the league?
Let’s not forget – the Giants D may have had a few good games, but they were ranked somewhere in the mid-20s for the entire season.
I’ll take our defense against their offense any day of the week, no matter the weather.

Niners.
We have a strong running game and a strong line. If they are on top of it mixed with our Defense it is going to be hard to catch and run with all those elements.
