Niners MVP vs Giants Prediction

We all feel good about winning this game, so who's going to be MVP?

Star-divide

The stats are just potential stat lines that could lead to the person being the MVP. If you disagree with the stats, but still favor the player, just vote the player and throw your own stats in comments. No, this is not a guarantee for each player and cannot be viewed as cumulative stats. Hopefully something fun to discuss.

I'm going to go with Alex Smith. He picked apart the Giants last game and was only slowed down by a bad drop for an INT and some issues converting in the red zone. Our red zone offense is much better now and I don't think the Giants playing more man to man coverage is going to help them. My 2 cents and yes I left Andy Lee off, because I don't want to see him run away with this poll. He'll be off the hook as usual, but is unlikely to be the MVP.

Poll
Who is the Niners MVP vs the Giants?
Alex Smith - 275 yards, 3 TDs, 0 INT

Vernon Davis - 150 yards, 2 TDs

Patrick Willis - 14 tackles, 1 INT, 1 sack
8 votes
Aldon Smith - 2.5 sacks, 5 tackles, 1 fumble returned for TD
18 votes

Crabtree/Williams

These two are going to be huge for us this weekend, as the Giants are going to everything in their power to completely shut down Davis. I would bet on 100+ and a TD for Crabtree, and 80+ and a TD for Williams.

Agreed

Crabtree is going to show up big time. 9 Rec 125 Yds 2 TDs… please…

I'm taking #11

His confidence has just been building all season long…and as they say, it takes “peaking at the right time” – and I think the timing for Smith to continue to have another big performance is perfect. With the rain, I don’t think he’ll pass for over 300 yards, but I don’t expect Eli to either. I like the projected numbers you’ve got up for him – I think they’re absolutely realistic, and add that with quality run support from Gore and Hunter, I think it makes for a winning combination on Sunday.

Hopefully Gore

contributes this time. It should be a huge boost to have him healthy smashing through the middle of their D and helping in pass protection.

Poor Vernon

Fresh off his big game, 0/29 so far

by mrg80 on Jan 20, 2012 11:32 AM PST reply actions

That's probably due to the fact...

that it’s widely expected that the Giants defense is going to point to him as “the guy we’re not going to let beat us” – but I really think that’s going to open up the passing game for guys like Williams, Crabtree and Walker (assuming he plays). IF those guys can get rolling, they may have to ease off of they’re coverage of Vernon. If Vernon’s going to have a HUGE game, the bulk of it will come in the second half.

Agreed

I don’t think they can stop him, though, especially not playing man to man.

How about the game gets played first.

"How about the game gets played first"

is probably the most — and only — reasonable response someone could have to a speculative post like this one.

I don't see a problem with predicting who the MVP is going to be

how is it different from the prediction games or the Alex Smith prediction contest?

I'm going out on a limb

and picking Goldson. The giants love those sideline throws and are very good at them. Dashon will need to fly around on Sunday as he has been and continue to make plays. I predict 7 tackles 3 pds/ints and two bone crunching hits.

I just had to say this

Imagine if you would have asked this question in August. You would have been forced to leave the internet if you would have put Alex in the poll with those stats. Plus you would have been ridiculed as a crazy homer for thinking the 9ers could make the NFC Championship.

Alex is leading right now!

How amazing is it that things have changed so much? How fun has this ride been? This is so awesome.

Can you imagine a little kid just standing there and getting picked on. They get rocks thrown at them. Spit on them. Alex’s just one of those guys, he’s been there. I just wish him all the best. I want to see him successful. I just want to see all good things happen to that guy. Because he is a warrior.-VD

Gore!

It better be. Not much of an honor to MVP in a losing effort.

We all feel good?

I think the 49ers have a good chance of winning, but I rarely feel good going into a game against a quality opponent.

by David Fucillo on Jan 21, 2012 11:05 AM PST reply actions

Well

I started to write, “Since we’re going to win this game,” but I didn’t want any more Giants fans boo-hoo’ing. So there you go.

by mrg80 on Jan 21, 2012 5:30 PM PST up reply actions

Alex Smith

Almost said Gore and Hunter, but the Giants will double Davis as stated in an earlier comment. Smith will spread the ball around to many targets, which he’s done over and over.
