Our best football is ahead of us, not behind us.

As I'm feeling the sting of this loss as I'm sure we all are, I can't help but get excited about next year. We got to the NFC Championship game and we still have plenty of things we can improve on. Not many teams can say that. We have our best football ahead of us, not behind us. This is something that we haven't been able to say in recent years.

This offseason will be a great offseason. For the team, as well as the fans. We know York will be active in Free Agency because once you taste victory thats all you want to eat! The team will be able to "Gel" and the offense will get much more work together. We will have the same system two years in a row. This is a great time to be a 49ers fan guys. While much of us are going to feel this sting for a while, we are all in the same basket on February 5th.

This team has shown they win together and lose together. This will not be our only chance we have a post-season bliss. We are all feeling like it was now or never because of how bad things were. This IS NOT the case. We will have great seasons ahead of us. This is a team that will pull together and make things happen next year. Let's celebrate the season we had. And we all know........REVENGE is oh so sweet, sometimes better than the original victory! Here is to a great season and to our bright future. (Holds his niner hat up high!)

Maybe

If you have watched the NFL for as long as I have you understand that every year is very different. We had everything go our way this year. Very few injuries, a very easy schedule, and it just kept going our way.

Next year, a much tougher schedule, we will be a marked team not able to catch people by surprise. There is zero guarantee that we will sniff the playoffs again anytime soon.

It's reality based on observed history.

Past performance is no guarantee of future success. The NFL is riddled every year with good teams who for whatever reason (injury, personnel turnover, luck, scheduling, locker room drama, etc.) don’t make it to the big dance.

Are we a better team now that we have Harbough? Absolutely.

Does that mean we are a lock for a Superbowl anytime soon? Certainly not.

I like our chances better with Harbuagh than we did under Singletary but the NFL is a cruel mistress. When you are one game away from the Superbowl you better seize the moment because you will never have another play out like our magical season did.

My thoughts exactly...

Which is why this loss stung even worse. It could be YEARS before we are this close again. I hope I’m wrong, and I do expect good things ahead for us, but I don’t know how long it will take for another deep run like this in the playoffs.

Great point

This team is headed in the right direction. Maybe they won’t win 14 games like they did this year, maybe they won’t have two home playoff games, but the 49ers will be a better team next year. I have no doubt that the 49ers will find themselves in a championship game again within the next 3 years, if not sooner.
