For those people that are sending Kyle Williams death threats

Get....A.....LIFE! It's just a game. At no point should people be threatening another persons life over a game. Do you think that kid doesn't feel terrible right now? Do you think he will never forget that night, for the rest of his life?

Honestly, what the hell is wrong with people when a football game prompts them to send death threats to a player. It's sad and makes the rest of us normal fans look bad.

I feel terrible for Kyle, he's been a solid player for the 49ers this year. I look forward to him remaining with the team next year and improving next season. I am also happy for the season that the 49ers had.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors.

I was coming on here looking to see if anyone mentioned it

It just dawned on me that there was major uproar at the violence following that Giants(SF)-Dodgers game last year and the beating that followed for Bryan Stow. Violence has no place in sports(with the exception of hockey fights) and so to all those Niner fans that did threaten Kyle Williams, I think they should really think hard about how stupid they are being and how they are overreacting.

Seriously. I was as devastated as any Niner faithful, but shit happens, we’ll get ‘em next year. Death threats? That’s just weak.

by Revan on Jan 23, 2012 2:49 PM PST reply actions

The kid has a bright future, as does the whole team. Don’t forget that he is only a second year player. Yes, he made two huge mistakes, but they were mistakes at a position that he is not accustomed to playing. Also, some of his returns were great. This loss was on the entire team, just like this great 13-3 season and making it to the NFC championship game is on the entire team.

Several of the original posters have deleted accounts/posts

You can still find some of the post & see that people are replying negatively towards the people who posted the ‘hope you die’ threats.

It’s disappointing, and giving Niner fans a bad name. Probably a good thing Billy Cundiff doesn’t have a twitter account. But unfortunately for us we now take the brunt of the bad publicity.

I don't think anybody wants to hear from kickers

Nor do I think kickers want to hear from anybody else. They know their job is to drive in that 48 yd. game winner and keep quiet. 59 and 51 yard field goals Matt Prater? They want to talk to Tim Tebow. Maybe Mike Vanderjagt would have had a Twitter account, but I think he was out of the league before Twitter got big.

I went to ASU during the same time period KW went and watched him firsthand in games with a team that did not have good teams nor good quarterbacks. The guy always seemed to give it his all regardless of the situation. This will only add to his desire to become great. To see where he’s come from, all of these sick people need to realize how hard the guy is going to be on himself. No one else needs to tell him.

thanks for stating the obvious

unfortunately, this stuff happens all too often in many sports with many teams’ fans. There is a certain degenerative culture around sports that is conducive to losers making sports out to be much more than it is. The sports in question rely on the $$$ from many of these losers — the interest, the obsession, evident in TV $$$ etc.. though I’m still unsure whether issuing death threats — for any reason, really, but especially over a couple of muffed punts in a football game — is an indicator of a sociopath.

Social media is courage juice to the cowards of society

It has been said that people conduct themselves on-line in ways that never would face to face. Sadly, I think we are rapidly moving toward more people behaving just as poorly in person as they do alone in front of a device, which is why threats such as these need to be taken seriously.

You gotta bring ass to get ass.

Sorry you guys are getting a rep for the work of a small percentage of your fans

As a Seahawks fan, I rarely root for the Niners, but I know that this behavior is not indicative of what 49er fans are about. Looking through Niner Nation, I can see you run a good clean ship. I hope the 99% of Niner fans that are good will round up the 1% that are not and remind them that they can buy a ticket on the BART and joln a fanbase right across the bay that will fit right in with.

Coaches should take some blame too for Kyle..

Our coaches and management got us here one thousand percent, turning this team and franchise around. I cant possibly see how anyone else could get coach of the year compared to Jim. However, I don;t know if anyone else was nervous as hell watching Kyle return kicks. No one else on the roster it seems to fill in for TG, as huge problem. Its like your long snapper getting hurt, if no one else there when he gets hurt…playing with fire. I mean Kyle was trying to earn a spot on the TEAM and win the game on every punt…and that is recipe for disaster. Diving for a bouncing ball early in the game on a punt…huh..what to save 2-3 yards. Coaches needed to sit him down and let him know to chill out on the return and settle him down. Obviously over anxious and stung in the end.

Give some credit to the Giants

because the overtime strip was a good play and they outhustled the 49ers. Even the best players sometimes get the ball stripped from them.

The one where it hit his leg was just unlucky.

by ZacharyD on Jan 25, 2012 6:54 AM PST up reply actions

Williams

Kyle Williams wasn’t carrying the ball properly, leading to the strip.

And the one that bounced off his knee was not just unlucky. He either needed to field the ball, or he should have be nowhere near it. Instead, he closed in on the football just enough for it to take a bad bounce and hit off his shin. His fault.

by blako on Jan 25, 2012 11:50 AM PST up reply actions

Yeah, maybe a kicker has been cut before as a result of a situation like this...

You don’t cut a promising young reciever for muffing punts when it’s not even his normal responsibility to be back there!

just bonehead plays

agree

It’s up to the coaching staff to make sure he’s not out there returning kicks ever again, but like I said I think he will be ok in the receiving game and we should at least give him a shot at redemption. If he does burn us in a big game next year, I will be the first to admit I was wrong.

I don't know about that

The Niners are still trying to replace T.O.

Once upon a time I thought WR was the easiest position to fill, whether you’re talking about former #1s on the scrap heap, or low-round picks and undrafted FAs……the thing is, you see them around the league and it seems plausible. But after watching the past 7 – 8 years, as they’ve tried this strategy…..you see what the failure rate really is. Almost none of these guys work out. Obviously that is partly a function of coaching and system, both of which have been lacking in SF through these years….but man, from what I’ve seen Williams is a keeper until further notice. I’ve seen enough Marcus Maxwells and Darrell Jacksons and Ashlie Lelies and so on and so on.

Adding a rec

because I agree with one cavaet – I suspect that it is likely that the idiots doing this are not 49ers fans and are instead people who were gambling on the game and bet for the 49ers.

Any true fan of the game will know that sometimes you get unlucky and that sometimes the other team makes a good play – both happened ot Kyle Williams – but many players have bounced back from such games to have excellent careers.

by ZacharyD on Jan 25, 2012 6:52 AM PST reply actions

Let's hope that he does bounce back

In the mean time, can we keep him off the punt return team?

Just one comment on this stuff.....

I think anyone with a functioning brain is “pro-death threats”…..I don’t even see why this stuff is made into a story. Its like 3 worthless morons with a Twitter account say something when they’re emotional, and the next five days we see 8000 stories and comments like “well I for one am against death threats against players for making a mistake”. Its made into SO much bigger than it is or should ever be.

It really sucks for Williams, but its the kind of thing that can be handled on a much-smaller scale. And as far as people getting worse over the years……if Twitter had been around in 1990, Roger Craig probably would have gotten death threats too. There have been over-emotional freaks since the first ape walked on two legs.

Seems to me that Kyle Williams was the one that blew up a defensive lineman twice his to spring Alex Smith for the touchdown run in the NO game.

It wasn’t a play that blew up a defensive lineman, but it was a big chip after he came in motion (against #91). Crabtree helped against #22.

No kidding

If you weren’t shooting folks after last season, when we were below 0.500, why do it when we have a 13 win season, and are among the top 3 teams in the league? Hell, I’ve had a man stab a butter knife into my hand when I was plumb dead drunk and I didn’t even consider killing HIM. And there are folks out there making threats to some dude you won’t ever meet who makes a living playing a game you can only dream about playing at the highest level? If you gotta clip someone in this situation, I think you’ll find the sadder specimen in the mirror.

Repeating something over and over doesn't make it true.
