Golden Nuggets: And So It Begins ...

Good morning, folks. I've gotta set you up with very quick links today, as I re-installed Windows and until I get it all set up how I need it, it's like browsing in the dark ages. We're about ready to dive into everything related to the offseason here at Niners Nation and though I'm still a bit numb, I do enjoy reviewing a season, especially when it's going to be a good one for a change. Of course it was a disappointing end to the season, but I really can look at what a lot of these guys were able to do and be proud about it. Let's get to the linkage for the day. Enjoy.

I hope we don't go after DeSean

He’s a cancer to a locker room. Andy Reid is a player’s coach and even he can’t keep Jackson in line. My biggest hope is that Bowe isn’t franchised and we go after him.

I'll take a Colston

6’4" – 225, 28 years old, averaging over a 1,000 per season for his 6 seasons. True pro on and off the field that will be an instant fit.

This would be the one free agent not currently on the team who we should try our best to sign. Forget about back up running backs like Peyton Hillis! Spend your money on a shinny new toy for Alex. Make mine a Marques.

I really like Colston

especially coming from a small local school like hofstra, but I am a little worried about him being a product of Brees. No doubt he has some talent, and he is big with very good hands… i am just worried that there is no way the Saints could have hit on every damn receiver drafted over the last 4 years (colston, moore, meachem etc..)

Also, I will probably get stoned for this, but if Peyton Manning gets cut…. I don’t see how we don’t go after him. Take the risk that he isn’t fully healtny, the Upside is easy super bowl contenders, and the downside is Kaep playing. Alex at ~11 mill or Manning at ~17 mill, I would think the decision should be easy.

With him though

this team could be ~07 pats good. Peyton would take this offense to a top 5 ranking if he is healthy. That in turn would give our D much more rest improving that side also, even with the loss of a few guys like Dashon and Ahmad. I think with peyton this team becomes unstoppable.

Greg Cosell

No idea how this guy is such a “respected analyst.” How does being a blood relative of a color commentator like Howard Cosell qualify one to critique a quarterback? I highly doubt Cosell is capable of throwing a football, let alone believe he has the right to nitpick the tendencies of an NFL quarterback. Its like having an accountant hired to do some technical consulting work for the engineering company that builds bridges. Just boggles my mind that so many journalists (Barrows, Branch etc) actually take Cosell’s opinions as good, sound analysis.

I can't believe people are using that article as an indictment of Alex Smith

All, he says is that Alex missed a couple throws. So did Eli.. Funny how that haters turn that into Alex being awful. That is called grasping at straws in most civilized parts.

Maiocco just wrote a fantastic article about Jim Harbaugh and his last press conference

http://www.csnbayarea.com/blog/niners-talk/post/Jim-Harbaughs-unguarded-moment?blockID=638352&feedID=2800

It’s really a beautiful article, please read it if you have time. Maiocco shows his depth of understanding of Harbaugh, and it makes up for the lame articles from the other writers (especially Lowell Cohn).

"Yeah, I do get emotional. It fires me up. It fires me up a lot. I'm not going to apologize for that. If that offends you or anybody else, then so be it." ~ Jim Harbaugh

Can you guys start boycotting anything and everything by Lowell Cohn?

The guy is a complete d!ck. Not sure what kind of journalist bond or fraternity you guys have going in the Bay, but that guy serious is an a$$.

post tomorrow

Have a post about all this nonsense coming tomorrow morning. Tried to avoid it but he infuriated me too much.

Sounds good.

I made the mistake of reading Cohn’s article comparing Harbaugh to an eleven year old and that just completely sent me over the edge with that guy.
