Manning to 49ers could be tricky to pull off
But here’s where it gets tricky for the 49ers. With starting quarterback Alex Smith due to be a free agent on March 13 and the Colts not forced to make a decision on Manning until March 8, the 49ers could lose Smith if they don’t move quickly on Manning, who may not be fully healthy at that point.
That’s why the best fit for Manning could be a team that already has a starting quarterback under contract for 2012, giving the team some flexibility because there’s already a Plan A in place. Then, that team could do either what the Jets did to Chad Pennington in 2008 or what the Vikings did to Tarvaris Jackson in 2009 and 2010, if this year’s Plan A+ comes to town.
The 49ers could pull it off by re-signing Smith to a manageable deal, which would leave enough cap room to bring in Manning later. As Rosenthal pointed out Tuesday, Smith’s performance in the NFC title game could mean that the 49ers won’t have to break the bank in order to keep him around.

I dont think AleX is greedy like that
whether or not he did good or not so good in the NFCC, nor would he have been greedy had he went and won the SB with MVP honors too.
Manning is not coming to the Niners, no need to even talk about it.
I wouldn’t resign him anyway. I’d go after a veteran QB and move forward. I’m sick of #11 in SF.
"What the hell are you mixing in that look-aid"
Im not
If he can have this big of a turnaround with no offseason under Harbaugh I cant wait to see him improve with Harbaugh in the future. And hey maybe we can get him a number 1 wide receiver. Crabtree is a #2 and Vernon cant do it alone
Manning is one of the best QB's to play the game
If he’s healthy, teams would be stupid not to go after him, even of it’s for one or two seasons only
Rule #1) If you hate Joe Buck, watch this www.youtube.com/watch?v=fkCSZKbyL94
Rule #2) Follow rule #1
You said veteran QB
Thats the part I disagreed in. If that veteran QB IS Peyton Manning now we have a different story. But Im taking Alex Smith over any other QB not named Manning/Luck/RG3
So who, then?
Peyton? Sure, I’m down with that. Just make sure to set your DVRs to record his retirement announcement on the Tuesday after his Week 6 neck injury.
After that, the pickings are REALLY slim. Don’t even try to convince me that David Garrard can win a Super Bowl. Or Kyle Orton. Or Jason Campbell.
Thoughts on Manning
The only way Manning comes to 49ers is if he decides I have too much money and not enough superbowl rings. Which we know are both true.
But given his health situation, I think some team should offer him a position as a quarterbacks coach and let him know that there is room to grow into an offensive coordinator. And really, it should be the Colts who do this given their ties with Manning and Andrew Luck
edit:
I just did a search on this and it looks like Bleacher Report did an article about this scenario yesterday, though they said it was unlikely which I fully agree with.
Yup , sounds like some Bleacher Report junk ...!!
I'm your " Huckelberry "...it's just my game ..( .AleX ) was asked , what do you think about all the game manager talk ... AleX i guess i just managed myself a VIctory ... Extend the Man ...!!
