Just Wanted Some Information
Hey, I am a Colts fan and I have to ask you guys some questions. But before I start, you guys had a terrific season and surpassed expectations. With that said I was wondering:
What are your thoughts on Alex Smith? Is he definetely coming back next year, or is there a possibility he does not?
Can you and would you guys take on Peyton Manning, who will most likely be cut by Irsay? Do you have the cap room? Manning can also bring along Wayne with him too, so you guys would add a premier receiver, which seems to be a need, What are your thoughts on Manning and Wayne going to the 49ers?
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors.

I could get excited about that
as long as the money was reasonable and Manning’s contract was easy to get out of after any given season.
No reason to take a bigger risk than that when we were already so close to the Super Bowl without them.
We don't need 8 in the box. We have 52 in the box.
Cap room:
I’m not completely familiar with the cap situation but I know the 49ers have some decent cap room. Then again, they also have about 20 expiring contracts, so they couldn’t throw it all at Manning/Wayne.

Manning and Room
Manning has been willing in the past to take less money in order to make the team better. That was probably out of respect for the Colts but I could see him taking less in order to win a SB with an amazing D. Wayne will follow Manning as there is nothing for him in Indy if Manning leaves.
was there ever a point in his entire career
where he was not one of the highest paid players? He went from #1 draft pick money, to highest paid every time his contract was coming up. Even when he wasn’t playing he siphoned a $90,000,000 deal.
lol

I don't see Manning in a 9er uniform...
Not only is his health a red flag, but his salary would stray from Baalke’s, add talent through the draft approach and adding reasonably priced free agents.
Joe and Steve were under the same system for years... don't expect Kaepernick to be super so soon.
of course he would have to pass a physical
and if he is cut Niners would not lose anything from a trade.

I don't want Peyton
We have to fix our quarterback situation for the long term, not apply a band-aid that will put us in salary cap hell.
The Colts have the number one pick this year because they couldn’t build a decent team around Peyton’s salary. Why would we make the same stupid mistake?
Every time Jamie Dukes says something enlightening and informative about football Jerry Rice and I mount up on our flying grizzly bears and claim pirate treasure from the moon. That's how often it happens.
maybe they know peyton is too injured to play anymore and why not start rebuilding now with andrew luck?

Maybe we can get Brett Favre to come play for us too...
Or better yet – Donovan Mc Nabb! HaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHa!

Alex will come back. It is good for him, it is good for the team. I think the strategy will be to let the entire league fight for Manning while we concentrate on more realistic targets much like last year with Nnamdi Asomughua
CAP and more
right now we have 16 million in cap space, but next year we could have maybe 12 or 10 million cause we have to resign some players, i was thinking about this a month ago… You know, Reggie wayne and Peyton in a 49ers uniform would be a thing of beauty.
There are LOTS AND LOTS of guys who keep making excuses for alex but the truth is he will never be an elite QB.
Kaepernick is our future
and Manning, as good as he is, would be AT BEST a 2-year band-aid. If Kaep had a similar style to Manning then I would say go for it. However, their styles are different.
I just don’t see Manning in Red and Gold.
Who's got it better than Honey Badger? Honey Badger don't give a ....
I have been a Manning fan for years but......
Realistically he and Harbaugh probably could not co-exist together.
Too old, health concerns, and too expensive.
Better that he retire and become a coach or manager.
Niners have an OK QB situation with Smith for a couple of years while they make the team stronger by addressing imediate needs and then….
Kaepernick is our future
Would agree that given some time Kaepernick is the next step at QB…but he will need some playing time…
However ,it is a wonderful thing to imagine this team with an elite young QB and elite reciever(s)..ahhhh….sighhh
