Aldon Smith DUI Arrest: 49ers Linebacker Seen Swerving On Miami Street
For those that missed it over the weekend, 49ers rookie Aldon Smith was arrested in Miami Saturday morning for suspicion of driving under the influence. Matt Barrows had some details from the Miami-Dade police department. According to the police report, Smith was observed swerving on the MacArthur Causeway in Miami Beach and was pulled over at a little after 4:30am. He failed a field sobriety test and then spent 3 1/2 hours in a correctional facility before posting the $1,000 bond and being released.
The 49ers issued a basic statement indicating they would not comment further given that it is an ongoing legal matter. I would imagine Jim Harbaugh will chat with him sometime soon. Coach Harbaugh went through his own DUI in 2005 while he was head coach at the University of San Diego. We'll never hear the conversation Harbaugh and Smith have, but I would love to be a fly on the wall for that one.
Thoughts on DUIs aside, this operates as a significant learning experience for the budding young star. This is the first time he's gotten into trouble (at least, as far as I can tell). People make mistakes and all we can ask is that he learns from this mistake and becomes a little smarter because of it. I don't think it is much more complicated than that at this point. He shouldn't have made the mistake in the first place, but it happened and it is time to grow from that. I'd imagine Coach Harbaugh will have something along those lines to say to him in the coming days, if they haven't spoken already.

I wonder what his BAC was?
Hopefully he learns from this mistake and this type of behavior doesn’t become the norm for him. I think that the Niners locker room is pretty strong and they will get Aldon in line and guide him to becoming a good player with a good work ethic.
I think it's fine...
he’s a young kid that just had an amazing rookie season, and finally took time to celebrate a bit, yes, he made a mistake, but he seems to be a learner from his mistakes rather than be a multiple offender.
all arguements about the ethics of drinking and driving aside
I think we can all pretty much agree that we hope he doesn’t have to miss any game for this.
First offense is a 5k fine.
So no games lost.

Just say it # 7 , because we all know it's AleX's fault ...!!
I'm your " Huckelberry "...it's just my game ..( .AleX ) was asked , what do you think about all the game manager talk ... AleX i guess i just managed myself a VIctory ... Extend the Man ...!!
Because he failed to get us to the superbowl, so Aldon went to Miami.
It is ALWAYS quarterback’s fault.
I see both of you are most likely pointing to everyone trying to always blame Alex...
but honestly why try to make it an issue when no one is discussing it and its completely irrelevant to this post? No one attacked Alex…
yup you caught me

Well he has been a fine citizen before this incident

oh ok i guess you are making sense...
nice! No games missed for Aldon. I want to see what he can do when playing every down.
but he never did anything bad before
i will be surprised if he gets anything more than the minimum.

Like to say I think most of us went thru that kind of crap when we were younger ...
but ofcourse some people don’t learn from it! hopefully he does
I did not.
I do not think it is a good idea to drink and drive.
Nothing normal or understandable about that.
What a shame
If we were in the superbowl, which we should have been, he wouldn’t have had this drunk opportunity. I can think of only one place to put the blame.

Or if he was in the Pro Bowl
like he should have been. So we can blame the NFL for not putting him on the ballot.
Or we can blame him because he is the one who picked up the bottle and decided to drive after. Hopefully he learns from his mistake and it doesn’t happen again. I did the same thing once when I was 20. I got lucky, the cop who pulled me over was a friend. It hasn’t happened since then.
I like to intentionally swerve when I’m sober, gotta keep other drivers on their toes.

Proper driving requires you to “swerve” if you want to apex and hit the racing lines.

I naturally swerve
I always thought what I would say if I got pulled over. If I was coming back from school I would say “I wish” then me and the cop would have a nice laugh and I would get to go home.

Live and learn...it's embarrassing for sure. No one feels worse about this than Aldon im sure...it's just a good thing no one was hurt.
There is the possibility he gets off on this too, he has the money to fight it and buy his way out of it. You’ve seen athletes in the past get charges like this altered or dropped.
And that early ref whistle
forward progress my ass!
and the giants for scoring more points than us.

They did not really score more points.
They got a gift.
