2012 Orange Bowl Open Thread: West Virginia Vs. Clemson
We continue our run through the "lesser" BCS bowls while we work towards next Monday's national championship game between LSU and Alabama. Tonight we get the 2012 Discover Orange Bowl featuring the West Virginia Mountaineers and Clemson Tigers. It is not exactly Oregon-Wisconsin or Stanford-Oklahoma State, and I would argue Friday's Cotton Bowl between Kansas State and Arkansas will be a more intriguing matchup. But, we get it nonetheless.
The biggest prospect in this game would appear to be defensive tackle Brandon Thompson, although it sounds like he might be more suited as a 4-3 defensive tackle. Clemson defensive Andre Branch is a guy who has used his senior season to make a name for himself. He finished the 2011 regular season with 10.5 sacks and 16 tackles for a loss. He would seem to project out as an outside linebacker at the next level. If the 49ers see Ahmad Brooks leave for greener pastures in the offseason, OLB will be a position of need for at least some depth.
West Virginia defensive end Bruce Irvin is another guy who would convert to linebacker at the next level. His senior year saw a dip in production from a 14.0-sack performance last season. Mocking the Draft views him as miscast in the WVU scheme, so we'll see how scouts view him through the draft process.

For reals.
Think he could be a decent NFL returner. Austin, I mean.

Taking about College...Draft Guru's Rob Rang & Dane Brugler predict 2012 Draft
NFC WEST:
1st Round….
Rob Rang:
WR Justin Blackmon,Oklahoma State… to Rams
DT Quinton Copies,North Carolina…….. to Hawks
OT Jonathan Martin, Stanford……………. to Cards
WR Mohamed Sanu, Rutgers……………..to 49ers
Dane Brugler:
OT Matt Kali, Southern Calif……………..to Rams
CB Dre Kirkpatrick, Alabama……………..to Hawks
OG David DeCastro, Stanford……………to Cards
OG Kevin Zeitler, Wisconsin……………..to 49ers
Would rather have Konz
But Zeitler wouldn’t piss me off too much… If we traded back like 15-25 picks. At 30-32 he is a huge reach. Konz being next to him helped a LOT.
Gimme 1 round!

Can't wait til WVU gets to the Big XII.
So ready to leave the Big East. More money and much better competition is a dream come true.

As soon as I heard they were heading our way
I smiled. WVU was as good of a replacement for Mizzou as I could have hoped for. At worst it’s an even trade. With Holgorsen there, it’s probably a big upgrade to the conference. Add to that getting to shed a generally mediocre A&M to pick up TCU who has shown they can play in the bowl games the last few years. It should make the conference routinely stronger than pretty much any of the other conferences including the vaunted SEC.
TEXAS FIGHT
Lovin it.
Never thought they’d do this. 63 points in two and a half quarters is amazing. Holgorsen may be for real methinks.
Couldn’t ask for a better way to end the year.

As an eastcoaster always loved & respected WVU
In football & bball. Obviously that’s due to the Big East but yea I totally understand leaving. $$$$$$$ & more national recognition when it comes to football since WVU always had athletes that can play with the best of ’em!
Niners,Nets,Reds & USC!!!

Funniest part of the whole thing
is WVU pulled their QB with 20 minutes left in the game. They could have cracked 85 points if they kept trying.
TEXAS FIGHT
LOL
The only good bowl game so far – Stanford.
And we lost. In such a fashion. Damn.
Could be worse.
You could be a Clemson fan right now.
All the BCS games except this one seemed close. I’m so proud of the Mountaineers right now I could almost cry. Dana Holgorsen, you’re my hero. The fact you got kicked out of the same casino I did makes me love you even more. LoL
What a game. What a night. Go ’Neers.

Baylor's game was fantastic too
Rose Bowl was also good. The NC is going to be a tremendous letdown after these games. Im not even going to bother watching that trash.
Gimme 1 round!

Me neither.
I have already seen bits of it before I feel asleep.
If this is not the season to prove that at least 4 team playoff is needed I do not know what is.
Should be an 8 team thou gh, with first game being at home field of the top 4. Then two bowls. Then BCS.
But this will never happen. Site decorum up their asses.
