2012 Wild Card Sunday Open Thread: Broncos Vs. Steelers

PrintThe media's main course for Sunday is at hand as the Denver Broncos and TIM TEBOW!!! face off against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Giants wrapped up their morning victory with a dominant second half performance to blow away the Falcons 24-2.
The Giants advance to face the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field next Sunday. The Packers have already opened as nine to ten point favorites in a rematch of a wild shootout in the Meadowlands in Week 13. The Packers escaped with a 38-35 victory thanks to a last second Mason Crosby field goal. We'll see how the two teams fare on the frozen tundra.
For now though, we get the Denver Broncos hosting the Pittsburgh Steelers for the right to face the New England Patriots. Tim Tebow is the story for many, but this game features so much more. The Steelers are dealing with numerous injuries both in terms of absences and gimpy players on the field. If the Broncos are going to have a chance, they'll need their defense to keep the Steelers aware of their presence.
On offense, the Broncos will need to get a strong game from Willis McGahee. Tim Tebow is as hit and miss as they come. He can weave some fourth quarter magic, but the Broncos are going to need more than that today. It should be an interesting matchup at Mile High.

My theory is that
he’s so concerned about using proper mechanics that it affects his passing. Then when he needs to fit the throw in he just throws it and thats when it actually ends up being a beautiful pass
You might have something there.
I know in HS football, when i would try and concetrate on getting my footwork perfect in a game, i would always mess up. I had to practice over and over and over until it became second nature, where i didn’t have to think about it, until i became happy with my performance as a Left tackle.

You have to remember that offensive linemen are allowed to grab ahold of the defensive lineman’s jersey as long as they’re within the shoulderpads. They’re even allowed to go outside of the shoulderpads as long as they immediately bring their hands back.
So why isn't the media talking about how bad the Steelers offense must be
since they can only manage field goals?

Like, paying the referees a good salary.
If you’re good at your job, you deserve it, and being a good referee is a hard skill to learn.
I think the NFL just hasn't set up any good quality controls
There are some pretty basic principles involved that have been around for decades.
Maybe if the NFL weren't so vocal about their support for their refs.
Seriously, I can’t remember the last time a ref was reprimanded publicly for a terrible game, or fired for being incompetent.
They generally
do it very quietly. And then the ref is seen no more

NBA refs are full-time because of the sheer volume of games that need officiating.
Corruption in the NFL is harder simply because it’s nearly impossible for one dirty ref in football to cause a game to go one way or the other. Too much action spread too far out over the field, with too many people on a crew
