Golden Nuggets: Confident That 49ers Can Beat Saints

Did you guys enjoy a good weekend of NFL football, worry-free and laid back? I most certainly did, but now I'm just sick of waiting. Maybe I'm sick of waiting because I'm very confident in the 49ers to beat the Saints on Saturday. I also feel like I'm one of the few people here who are actually steadfast in the belief that the 49ers will win this one handily. It's silly to think that Drew Brees will suddenly be horrible because the game is at Candlestick, but I just feel as though the 49ers defense will step it up. Full thoughts on that coming a bit later. For now, onto the quick links for the day.

Living in NO

If the Saints win, I will have to walk home shamefully in my jersey being publicly mocked.
If (when) the Niners win, I will happily take being jumped on that very walk.
The bonus, is that most the people I know who root for the saints are A: not fans of football and B: not real Saints fans
It will be nice to see the cockiness that accompanies ignorance melt away after a 49’ers win

AHR, walk proudly

Win or lose, you walk home proudly. The New Orleans Saints are a great football team on a great run right now. The 49ers are a great football team as well. There is no reason on earth you should walk home in shame while wearing a 49ers jersey. (unless it has a number 96 on it and says Balmer on the back.)

Anyway the 49ers are a better team than the Saints. We should take care of them at home. Don’t be scared because everyone underestimates us. They’ve been doing that all year.

jersey

Why do I have this feeling that u own a 96 balmer jersey?

by Indosf on Jan 9, 2012 4:07 AM PST via mobile up reply actions

Because you have horrible intuition?

If I ever had a a Balmer jersey I would have burned it long ago.

win or lose

always walk proud in your Niners jersey.

Maslow's theory of higher needs does not apply to Patrick Willis. He only has two needs: tackling people and finding people to tackle.

I was being slightly melodramatic

Its been a good season, and no matter what happens its nice to see the niners relevant again

Weekend off

I didn’t watch any games over the weekend. Gave myself the weekend off to stay fresh. Bring on the Aints.

Do you watch on Sky TV or whatever that channel is called?

The “analysts” are a weird mix with 1 token Brit thrown into the mix. I’m not sure exactly why but that channel annoys me.

Ha ha!

The token Brit is Nick Halling. He’s quite respected here as a pundit. Or it might have been Neil Reynolds? Both know their stuff. Who annoys you? The host?

by LondonNiner on Jan 9, 2012 2:37 PM PST up reply actions

The whole panel just seems odd to me.

Not really sure why, they seem like they fidget around and they awkwardly throw around their ideas. The Brit used to play some form of football professionally. I agree he knows the game quite well. The viewer e-mails can be pretty funny sometimes though…

the title is a recipe for let down

We finally have a fine season and our fans get arrogant. Were a better team then N.O? Really? Nothing can justify that imo. I atleast hope our team stays humble and don’t forget “the longer it takes us to find out the better off we will be”

by RBoogy29 on Jan 9, 2012 8:04 AM PST via mobile reply actions

I wouldn't call us arrogant

Arrogance would be a complete disregard for your opponents abilities. I would say all of us have a healthy fear of what the Saints can do offensively. Confidence on the other hand is having a belief that your team can beat anybody. This season the team has given us every reason to be confident. They have shown they can play winning football and hang with any team.

by Method24 on Jan 9, 2012 8:30 AM PST up reply actions

... Thinking that the 49ers can win makes me arrogant? And where did I say we're a better team?

Sorry for not quaking in my boots. I’ll go over to Canal Street Chronicles and let them know that we forfeit.

Some people. Ugh.

no you didnt say we were better

Pat Willie did. All the comments collectively displays arrogance. Now what you said personally I was just saying your title is a recipe for let down. Me personally like to wait to the dust settles.

by RBoogy29 on Jan 9, 2012 9:39 AM PST via mobile up reply actions

Then do it how you want, don't flog others for being different kinds of fans than you are.

I’m confident that the 49ers can win.

We're a better team, we have better players

We have better coaches and we have way better fans. It’s not arrogance, you are mistaken. It’s confidence.

Yes , let the flogging commence ...

… how dare you James have confidence in a TEAM that only won 13 games …!!

I agree, the 49ers can win and they are definitely getting overlooked nationally.

If the wide-outs are healthy I think Harbs is gonna open up the play book and shock some people. Coupled with some solid ball control running and our awesome D, I’d say our team has a very VALID opportunity to win this game. Hope that wasn’t too arrogant of a statement. Rbooger29.

by moto9er on Jan 9, 2012 10:27 AM PST up reply actions

i guess

And I’m not flogging but Yea you’re right. Anyway how do yall deal with it when yall take that stance of confidence then lose? Just curious. A lot of my friends are cowboys fans and they boast that same kind of confidence year in and year out but have nothing to show for it. Anyway I hope you all are right and we are the better team and we get this win I would like nothing. More than a I told u so when the games over

by RBoogy29 on Jan 9, 2012 10:06 PM PST via mobile up reply actions

its a thin line

I worked with a guy that displayed that same confidence because we went 8-8 and Hung with the best teams. The year after that he wore it on his sleeve believing we would beat every team we faced. I guess that rubbed me wrong, because each game he verbally suggested we would win, we lost. This year I answered three phone calls from him now were 12-3 lol. His calls are now forwarded to my voicemail

Potential needs coaching.

This team has had playoff potential since 2009 for sure. Now that there is competent coaching in place we are seeing consistent high level play. This team is realizing it’s potential finally!

Hungry!

These players most of which are 1st round picks are not going to flinch. Too much disappointment from past seasons to let the Saints bring us down.

The Lions defense is crap with a few well known names. I am confident someone will make Brees take a good long look at the grass.

These players are hungry and as it has been all season, it will be a dogfight.

Looking at the sky is cool too

I don’t mind if the defense mixes it up a bit and puts him on his back for variety :-D

by KisVakond on Jan 9, 2012 11:24 AM PST up reply actions

The year that Marino set the passing record that Brees just broke

I was confident in the Niners to win on a day that saw Marino covered in grass stains at Stanford during the Dolphins shocking (to most) Super Bowl defeat. I am equally confident this week. When the race is wide open, I choose the horse with the biggest heart. Goin with the Niners here.

I agree that Drew Brees isn't going to have a horrible day just because he'll be at the Niners' house

They’ll be game planning against us very well, I think we’ll have a tough fight on Saturday. But I do believe the Niners can win this one.

Can’t [site decorum] wait.

Win or lose, at the end of the day I'm just happy to see the Niners play well... Okay, winning is good. I prefer winning.

Shut down the run...

and hopefully the Saints will look like they did last year against the Seahawks without their run game going. CAN"T WAIT!!!

Just so you are aware

Last year’s playoff game we were down to putting Julius Jones back as our lead back due to injuries. This year, we may have lost Mark Ingram, but Thomas, Sproles and Ivory are all healthy and running very well.

I like Hamburgers!
Uh oh...better put an Asterisk on it.

by Grumps on Jan 9, 2012 11:23 AM PST up reply actions

"Running very well" is something that hasn't phased the 49ers all season.

The best games against them came in Week 16 when Lynch scored off of a special teams turnover and in Week 17 when Justin Smith and other guys weren’t playing. There was some pretty piss-poor tackling by the Lions on Saturday

I am aware.

And this year I believe the 49ers D will stifle the Saints run game just like they have all year long.

Niners have a great chance to win

We all know that the Saints are the favorite even though they are playing in SF, we’ve been underdogs really since the season began, we’ve exceeded expectations and ready to play, lets get it going.
