Will Saturday be more personal for Harbaugh and company than some other games? Looks that way...
Hello, Niners faithful. I didn't know if this was linked, but found this story and thought it was interesting. We all know it seems the Niners coaching staff does a good job of motivating their players with lack of respect by the media and things like that. But is it possible Harbaugh may have a more "personal" feeling for about matching up with the Saints? Seems that could be the case. I ran across this story and after reading it, I would have to imagine that Harbaugh is definitely gonna use this as a little extra motivation for the Niners first playoff game in nearly a decade

Apparently the blitzing from the Saints in the preseason was done because Sean Payton was upset Harbaugh didn't call him to discuss the "gentlemen's agreement" of pressuring the QBs in a preseason game. When Harbaugh didn't call, Payton apparently got a little upset, and decided to let loose on Alex and the Niners offensive line. Check out the link for the full story.
My question is simple: do you see HarCoach using this as bulletin board material? I think he will have brought this up more than once, and will give the front seven more incentive to try to annihilate Drew Brees. Also, the line will be madw aware, and will have more incentive to not allow Alex to get pummeled again. I think Jim will use this and the lack of media respect (again) to unleash the beasts on Saturday. Thoughts on this?

I'd imagine so...
Although Coach Harbaugh denies knowing anything about it. From his press conference earlier today:
Question: One of the things that came out after that game was the radio guy for the Saints said that the word there was that you didn’t call Saints Head Coach Sean Payton about a gentleman’s agreement and that’s why they blitzed so much. Do you know anything about that?
Answer: "No, I don’t. I really don’t. Don’t know anything about that. You hate to deal with hypotheticals. What somebody might have said and what somebody didn’t say. It really becomes irrelevant. Certainly not aware of any gentleman’s agreement. Even asked my brother. ‘Is there some kind of gentleman’s agreement that you call a coach before a preseason game?’ And he wasn’t aware of any. Even if there was, we wouldn’t do it anyway. We ask no quarter, we give no quarter, and that’s how we approach things.
Question: I know you had said after that game that, ‘Hey, they can blitz. That’s part of it, you can do that." Did it seem excessive that there was that much blitzing going on with an established defense against a team that was just installing stuff and after the lockout as well?
Answer: "That’s what they do as evidenced by a full season to see what they do. Whether that helped us? It was effective in that game. Made us address it."
That may be true that he didn't know about any agreement
But the fact Payton reacted by “turning the dogs loose” won’t sit well with Jim.
He doesn’t strike me as the kind of guy who would forget about it. LoL
"The Harbaughcolypse is upon us. No one in the NFL is safe"
If Payton had a problem
why not just be a man about it and approach Harbaugh? Seems awfully childish to me..
Maslow's theory of higher needs does not apply to Patrick Willis. He only has two needs: tackling people and finding people to tackle.
Payton is due for a good handshake now.
Hope his grip is strong. LoL

lol
I hope Anthony Davis is going to stick close to Harbaugh after the game in case he needs to break up any scuffles.

That was the best part of "The handshake"
The picture of Schwartz about to blow up on espn with Davis right next to him cracking up made my year. LoL
"Bears are crazy, Willie. They'll bite your head off if you're wearing steak on it."
lol yeah
I think he made some pretty funny comments on twitter about it after the game too

I talked to several Lions fans
who would disagree with you.
Which makes it even sweeter.
Joe, Jerry, Steve, and....Who is next?
here's another picture of him smiling in the middle of a scuffle lol

He does laugh a lot in those situations.
I cannot imagine how nasty he is gonna be when he becomes a seasoned vet. I’ve already seen him get scrappy in games a ton. And when he is blocking, he is trying to hurt people.

Payton and Harbaugh are cut from the same cloth though
two guys that would eviscerate an opponent for years without ever telling them the reason why they’re upset with them.
I thought it was incredibly unsportsman like to blitz that much after the lockout, but I guess all it did was help the 49ers right now in this surprise playoff match up.

I think they both respect each other a lot.
Liking each other may be a different story… But Payton has what Harbaugh wants, and Payton knows that Harbaugh is fully capable of taking it from him.
Reminds me of this scene a bit:

I never listen to anything on the radio
I almost just assume if someone heard anything on the radio its the opposite of the truth.
"When they pull the chains off, I’ll come back just as strong as when I left, if not better" - 52
This sounds completely made up
It was the first game of the pre-season the starters only played a couple of series
We had no off season camps and i’m sure Williams wanted to eveluate new players
This sounds like some media person trying to hype a story for his own personal gain and some people buying into it
Sounds to me like your coach knows other wise

I think the Saints were still upset about a certain Skittles based incident from January
and they were going to take it out on everybody they could.
The 49ers just happened to be first in line.
My thinking is that Payton was trying to set a precedent for his team that they play tough defense always. From the practice field to the first preseason game and everything after that.
However, that is all speculation. Sometimes while riding my dinosaur and fighting evil I like to come up with stories.
Joe, Jerry, Steve, and....Who is next?
No.
This “idea” that there was supposed to be some phone call was made up by the Saints radio guy.
Both Harbaugh and Payton have denied that anything like that was supposed to happen.
