Alex Smith Stat prediction Contest, Divisional Playoff Round

Next up Saints! I don't expect this to be the typical game for Alex, so there is a good chance for a shake up here. People could end up losing points. I'm changing the Sacks to 50 points each so they don't end up dictating the winners instead of enhancing the winners.

This contest is open to all who care to join and the prize is bragging rights. The system is set up as follows:

Attempts-------26

Completions----14

Passing Yards--179

Touchdowns-----0

Interceptions--0

Sacks----------2

Each player starts with 150 points.

Each Attempt you are off by, you lose a point.

Each Completion you are off by, you lose a point.

Each Yard you are off by you lose a point.

Touchdowns and Interceptions are worth 50 points each.

Rushing touchdowns count, if Alex runs it in.

If you guess 2 touchdowns or interceptions and he throws 2 you get 100 points. If you guess 2 and he throws 0 you lose 100 points. Likewise if you guess 0 and he throws 2 you also lose 100. Unfortunately if you guess 0 and he throws 0 you gain nothing.

It's the risk you take with Alex.

Sacks are bonus points. If you guess the correct amount of sacks you get 50 points, you can't lose points on sacks.

If anyone wants to give it a try against the Saints this weekend relpy in the format above. I'll post the scores next week. If there is still participation, I'll keep it going until the post-season is over for us. I'll post weekly and accumulated results so you can compare your results to the rest of us.

Good Luck, and GO NINERS! Go Alex!

I like the way the one completion goes for -179 yards

Do you figure Meachem is going to catch it and try to run back to New Orleans?

Well ,it's simple math , 40 sacks 4.1 yards loss per sack will give you a negative number ...!!

Net vs. Gross passing yards was never specified!

Net PY (and advanced stats) often include sacks! I am going to allow it!

I'm trying to keep it simple...

I want to just include passing yardage. If i am getting it wrong let me know please.

I really wouldn’t like to but I just think that in a game like I assume this will be, he’ll have to throw the ball a lot more and differently than normal, like you know, not as many dumpoffs

No way he throws 3 interceptions

god forbid

the Saints are winning a blowout, I think he could easily throw 3 or more. I mean, it’s the PLAYOFFS.

I don’t really PREDICT a blowout… but it not out of the realm of possibility. We have argued numerous times that the Saints O has not faced a D as good as ours… (except possibly Houston) true, but our D has not faced an offense as good as theirs!

We did well enough against second tier good-not-great offenses (Lions, Giants, Cowboys, Bengals — also Steelers, BUT they were clearly hobbled by Ben’s mobility. NO/GB/NE passing offenses are roughly TWICE as efficient as these other good offenses.

Gregg Williams tried that crap last MNF game.

Guess how many INT’s Smith threw? 0

Now there may be 1… but 2 would a be a freak type of deal… at least based off of our style of football.

Only way he gets 3 is if somehow the Saints are beating us like 25+ points in the first half and he is forced to pass and pass and pass. But I just don’t see their defense being all that good. Their DB’s can’t catch the ball very well.

Correction:

He actually had 2 INT’s in the last game: 2 INT’s and 1 TD…. so my bad. Still, I think three is pretty far out there. Especially with the confidence he has gained through the course of the season.
