We break down the news that the NFL will decide on Monday about San Francisco's eligibility to bid on Super Bowl L and LI

The San Francisco Chronicle is reporting that the 49ers will find out on Monday if they will be in contention to host either Super Bowl L or Super Bowl LI. The NFL will reportedly announce on Monday whether the 49ers will be eligible to bid. As I understand it, a stadium has to exist for two seasons to host a Super Bowl. The 49ers stadium is slated to open in 2014, which would give it two full regular seasons by the time of the 2016 Super Bowl (L).

The Chronicle is reporting San Francisco would be the host city, even with the 49ers stadium moving to Santa Clara. The team will remain the San Francisco 49ers, so it is not surprising that SF would indeed be the host.

"San Francisco is our home," 49ers CEO Jed York said in a phone interview Friday. "If and when we win a Super Bowl, the parade will be on Market Street."

The 49ers could not get the stadium ready to host Super Bowl 49, but I suppose hosting the 50th version of America's biggest sporting event would be pretty cool in and of itself.

Jed York believes that if the 49ers can get this first Super Bowl, they can quickly join the circuit of Super Bowl sites. New Orleans will host their tenth Super Bowl next February, matching Miami for the most Super Bowls. Los Angeles sits behind them with seven at various stadiums.
