All week I had been gloating over the last two 49er wins during which they amassed 621 total yards on the ground, I was way over my head, even deriding NY Giant's OC Kevin Gilbride over his complaint of Justin Smith's murderous tendences in two, yes, two posts. I was acting like a kite flying high over the recent greater SF bay area sports truimphs, the San Francisco Giants came back after trailing the Cincinnati Reds 2-0, to get into the pennant race vs. the St. Louis Cardinals, the outcome of this match-up will decide who as National League champs will go to the World Series.
Then came the double whammy which made this day so depressing for me. I felt like the earth literally was melting, and my clear vision becoming blurry with my teary wet eyes. The guacamole dip I ate during the televised match-up between the SF 49ers and the NY Giants began to taste like some kind of slimy green gooey, the 7-up I had started to taste bland, it was becoming obvious I felt so uneasy with yet another letdown by the 49ers losing to the Giants. I stayed on after the game to watch the SF Giants, hoping the baseball side of pro sports in San Francisco would salvage my day with heroics by the fired up pregame speaker who gave fire and brimstone pep talks, a gruffy looking guy by the name of Pence and by Posey, the batting champion.
But nothing saved my day, the day was long gone even before it started. The SF Giants also lost today, to the Cardinals in the opening game of the playoffs.
So, I have been in a daze all day.
When I saw the Giants receiver Cruz do his salsa dance, I knew it was going to be a long day for me.
The 49ers appeared not to execute the plays they wanted to complete, and the element of surprise was as lost the look of my face was.
My perspective is we need to go for the jugular vein in order to win but it was such a lackluster day.
I guess it is Gilbride and Coughlin's day and it wasn't our day or our time.
My only consolation are the fact that it is only one day and that the next game will be coming soon - next Thursday.
At least it won't be a long week, that would have been torturous.
The difference is, it will FEEL like a long week, as if an eternity will pass before the 49ers win again.
