49ers vs. Seahawks: Touchdown drive shows adjustments

Thearon W. Henderson

We take a look at the 49ers touchdown drive, and what it could mean for the offense when they come back out on the field later in the game against the Seahawks.

The 49ers first half was an abysmal performance that seemed to carry a hangover from the team's embarrassing defeat to the New York Giants. Coming into the second half however, offensive coordinator Greg Roman showed he could make adjustments. Alex Smith reverted to his Captain Checkdown form early in the third quarter, but it proved key as the Seattle Seahawks seemed content to give up the underneath pass. Smith consistently hit Frank Gore underneath, moving the 49ers down the field in ten yard chunks.

The drive culminated with a touchdown pass to Delanie Walker, but the key in my mind is twofold: 1) how the Seahawks defense adjusts on the next 49ers drive, and 2) how the 49ers counter those adjustments. As a 49ers fan, I have my fingers crossed that this will open things up on the side and down the field, but we'll see. Fortunately we'll see sooner rather than later as Dashon Goldson just picked off Russell Wilson.
