No, this is not a post about the 49ers offense. I am not going to talk about the high number of rushing attempts, the jet sweep, or anything of that nature.
This is about the way he treats the roster. Specifically the young guys and the soon-to-be free agents.
I think that he is basically treating future FA's like seniors. He is going to play them. Put them in important positions and just accept that they wont be back next year. People like:
Dashon Goldson, Soap, Delanie Walker, Ted Ginn
And on the other side of things he is treating his rookies and young players like true freshman. He is redshriting them their first year. They aren't playing but they are with the team. Learning the system. Learning the playbook. Getting bigger and stronger. Players like:
AJ
LMJ
Daniel Kilgore (last year)
Ian Williams (last year)
These are players that are going to contribute. They matter, and they matter a lot for the future. Just because they are not playing now does not mean that they aren't good or they aren't going to contribute going forward. Like a young college player they are going to sit out their first year or two and learn while the upperclassman finish out their careers. And you know what will happen when they graduate? (leave for FA) There are going to be young players who step in and fill the roles. The 49ers wont miss a beat.
Like the best college teams say, the 49ers don't rebuild they reload.
