Alex Boone thinks new Nike jerseys make him look fat

Jeff Hanisch-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

With the NFL switching apparel providers from Reebok to Nike this year, the early word was that the players loved the new jerseys. Now some are saying they make them look fat.

By now most of us are aware that the NFL changed apparel companies from Reebok to Nike this year. Initially the players seemed to really like the new jerseys they're wearing. It appears that perhaps the less svelte members of the league have now noticed a slight flaw in the new shirts, though.

They say the jerseys make them look fat.

Not ironically, two of the chief complainers are Terrence Cody and the 49ers own Alex Boone...neither of which could be called "thin". Cody tips the scales at 349 pounds at 6'4", while Boone checks in right around 300 lbs. at a height of 6'8", considerably longer and more lean than Cody.

Still, Boone says, "It makes me look fat, and I'm not fat."

I would agree with Boone that among NFL players he's not what I would consider "fat". However even his wife agrees that he could look better in his jersey, adding, "It looks like you ate a small baby."

I have kids, so I don't really want to think about someone eating a small baby, but I'll pretend it's a baby-sized doll for the time. Boone's wife has decided to give him the nickname "Dingo" as a result of his baby-eating. She sounds like she has a great sense of humor. I'm sure Alex loves it...

The chief complaint is that the jerseys are very form-fitting and seem to show off every curve...not the best feature for something clinging to a very large man's gut. Now if Nike decides to do some photo-shoots with scantily-clad bikini models sporting these jerseys in, say, toddler-size...I don't think many people would complain about the clinging nature of the design.

Another less-funny complaint is that the jerseys can be very suffocating when wet. Cody says that when they get wet, "It feels like it tightens up and stuff, it's hard to breathe, it constricts."

I hear ya big fella...but then again, I'm sure it's hard to breathe for a man of your size after running around the football field, anyway.
