Smith/Kaepernick controversy a ruse?

Stay connected for news and updates

I was wondering if it's possible this new QB controversy could just be a ruse to throw off the Saints. I fully believe the 49ers let the Bears think Smith was going to start all week just to mess with their preparation. Since they would have to key on Smith in their prep, they probably didn't spend as much time game planning for Colin Kaepernick.

Now they have the same opportunity to mess with the Saints. I'm sure we'll see Alex Smith start this game, they just want to give the Saints something more to chew on when planning for this game. Smith and Kaepernick are quite different in style, so giving teams 2 QBs to key on instead of 1 has to mess with their prep. To me the Bears looked so out of sorts last week because they didn't know what was coming. They didn't plan correctly for the Niners and it cost them dearly. Obviously they couldn't get anything going on Offense, but the fact the defense was so awful seems telling.

If this does prove to be a misdirection, it definitely feel Belichik-ian in nature. Jim Harbaugh does seem like the type of coach who would play head games with the media too.
