We take a look at Jerry Rice's comments about Calvin Johnson potentially breaking his single season yardage record.
17 seasons ago, 49ers wide receiver Jerry Rice set the single season mark for most receiving yards with 1,848. That was a particularly notable year as four the top 15 single season yardage totals came from that season. After Rice, Isaac Bruce was second with 1,781, Herman Moore was sixth with 1,686 and Michael Irvin was thirteenth with 1,603. That's just a little bit ridiculous.
This season, Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson is making a spirited run at Rice's record. Through 14 games, Megatron has 1,667 yards, which puts him on pace for 1,904 yards, and the new record.
Jerry Rice was asked about this, and had a pretty classic response:
Jerry Rice on Megatron potentially breaking his single-season receiving yds mark: "I have 40 records. I don't mind giving him one."
