I'm serious. Given that Ted Ginn Jr. is having a sub-par year and muffed a couple punts in the New England game, would the 49ers be better off going without a return man? Instead of having a guy back there impersonating Kyle Williams' gaffes from last season's NFC title game, the 49ers ought to just send in an extra guy to rush the kicker for a blocked punt.
Now I know some might argue that LaMichael James could take up punt return duties full-time. However, the 49ers are very thin at running back with Kendall Hunter on injured reserve and Brandon Jacobs suspended. So, I'd rather just limit James to kickoff returns while he eases the load off Frank Gore in the backfield.
What are your thoughts on ditching the punt returner role? I know it's a radical proposition, but I just don't trust Ginn anymore.
