We take a look at the latest news surrounding 49ers defensive lineman Justin Smith, and reports he may have a torn triceps muscle.

As they say, when it rains, it pours. Matt Barrows is reporting a source has indicated 49ers all-world defensive lineman Justin Smith suffered a partially torn triceps muscle in the win over the Patriots. Smith missed most of the second half of that game, missed the subsequent Seahawks game, and has not practiced since then.

Parys Haralson suffered a torn triceps in the preseason, and was placed on injured reserve. In the case of Smith, the team is hoping the injury is not so severe that he can't play through the pain in the playoffs. If this information is correct, this just about ensures Smith will not play in Sunday's regular season finale.

Ricky Jean Francois will get another start at defensive end, facing a Cardinals offensive line that has been pretty brutal this season. The 49ers will need to take advantage of this, and any struggles this weekend would not be all that inspiring heading into playoffs.
