As I've been trying to tell everyone, Kaepernick had a very, very good game yesterday and Harbaugh is 100% correct to keep him starting for next week.
According to ESPN, Colin Kaepernick had a QBR (*not quarterback rating) of 82.4 yesterday. That's good for 7th in the NFL on Sunday. That incorporates the pitch, the safety, all of it. And its not just from running the ball either. Kaepernick was 6th in passer expected points added, 6th!
For everyone not familiar with QBR, its basically expected points added (EPA) with ESPN controlling for some league-wide averages (proprietary, not sure how). EPA controls for down, distance, and field position, among other things. Frank Gore, in contrast, had -9.7 raw EPA -- that doesn't adjust for the awful O-line play. Going into the game, Gore had a raw EPA of 16.2...that means he took more away this week than he's contributed in the first 11 games.
WE NEED HUNTER! Since we don't have hunter, we need LaMichael James next week - linebackers are funneling inside the tackles because we can't run outside anymore with Hunter -- THIS IS VERY BAD. It was apparent in the game with the Rams corners cheating inside with their eyes.
(disclaimer: starting this season, ESPN uses a modified Expected Points Added, or EPA. For instance, that ensures that the O-line would bear some % of responsibility for a sack-fumble).
