Kirby Lee-US PRESSWIRE

We break down the opening line for the 49ers Week 14 matchup with the Miami Dolphins.

In spite of a disheartening loss to the St. Louis Rams, the San Francisco 49ers have opened as double digit favorites over the Miami Dolphins for their Week 14 matchup. They were initially installed as ten point favorites, and the line has hovered at 10 to 10 1/2 points.

The Dolphins are not playing bad football, but they are still a team that is taking some lumps as they develop behind a rookie quarterback. Nonetheless, I am a little bit surprised the line has gone this high. The 49ers are a better team than we saw last week against the Rams, but there are question marks heading into the game that still need to be answers.

The oddsmakers are doing whatever they can to draw in money on the Dolphins, so we see the higher line. I do think the 49ers can cover that line, but we'll obviously need to see a bit more from the offense. We'll see what we can get as the oddsmakers have set the over/under total fairly low, at 39 points. The only lower totals are for Chiefs-Browns (37.5), Jets-Jaguars (38.5) and Cardinals-Seahawks (34.5).
