Someone else to blame besides Kyle Williams
All year long we had a focused team and we stayed away from the stupid penalties. All until we got to the NFC championship game. I personally was appalled at Vernon Davis when he got the first personal foul after his first touchdown. Not only was it out of character for our team but the worst showcase of immaturity on the team all year. Later in the game Vernon Davis jumps on the back of one of the Giant's players. This too resulted in a personal foul and this too was unnecessary. I think as one of the leaders of the team, his complete lack of discipline for the most important game of his career led to the lack of focus and sound decision making that eventually caused us to lose the game. I think his action set the stage for future bonehead plays in the game. It was that lack of focus that kept Kyle Williams from getting away from a punt that he was not going to field. It was that lack of focus that kept Kyle Williams from tucking the ball away before he tried to run with it in overtime. It was this lack of focus that I that spread down to Kyle Williams as he watched Vernon Davis and all of his buffonery.

plenty of people to "blame"
How about dixon for not picking up that 2nd and 4 and then that 3rd and 1 in the beginning of the 4th? The next Giants possession was that 1st punt incident.
Carlos Rogers and the rest of the secondary for giving Victor Cruz 56 yards in 80 seconds to close out the 1st half?
Andy Lee with 10 punts and only 3 inside the 20?
In the end, it was a team loss.
Let's be realistic.
6 punts were from our own <= 31 yd. line, you’re not exactly going to be able to punt the ball in wet slippery conditions 50+ yards and have your coverage team get down there in time to keep it inside the 20…

can we stop with the blame game?
the TEAM lost the game. Time to move on.

Vernons things were dumb
But they didnt change the game. Its not like the Giants got points out of it.
you know what the giants did get points out of?
The offense not being capable of getting first downs and converting on 3rd downs. End result was the giants offense being on the field for 58% of the game.

Just throwing out a thought...
Those were just some thoughts I was feeling during the game when he committed those penalties. How were they going to affect the game. We definitely lost as a team. I will say this though, I am looking forward to next year and to showing everybody that our season was not a fluke. Let’s get some more wr’s though, so that we can open up the offense.
you expect more out of your team captain.
That “C” is a badge of honor, and it doesn’t mean clown. Seriously, WTF was VD thinking? You can say that 15 yards doesn’t make a difference because the other team didn’t score immediately, but you look at 15 yards in ANY NFL game, and it’s huge.
On the ensuing kickoff, the Giants go down at the 31, but what if it was booted and taken out to the 15? or maybe touch backed to to 20? That’s at least 11 yards further they have to drive, and when they punt, we’re 11 yards closer!
Given how tough it is to gain 1 yard in the NFL, we can’t just go around giving 15 yards for people doing dumb (site decorum). VD accounted for more than half of the penalty yards for the niners in the game.

The team seemed overwhelmed by the big lights
There were many examples of the team being too tight or trying too hard:
I was very disappointed for the same reasons with VD
Alex Smith often had happy feet
The defensive backs colliding – they, or just the safety, wanted to make a play so bad that they weren’t aware of their teammate.
The finger could be pointed at the coaching staff, but maybe this is just the way it is for a team that has only known losing for nearly the last decade. In next year’s championship game, they will be much more focused and ready for the challenge.
Moody and complicated
O " BOY " ...!!
I'm your " Huckelberry "...it's just my game ..( .AleX ) was asked , what do you think about all the game manager talk ... AleX i guess i just managed myself a VIctory ... Extend the Man ...!!
the penalty for celbrating bothered me much more than the other
When they flagged him on the other one, he was jumping in after a Giants player ripped off the helmet of a 49er, but was not flagged for it. Now of course, he should have restrained himself, but I just think it’s a little more understanding than unsportsmanlike like conduct on a celebration.
I actually liked him getting on top of the camera stand.
But the penalty only affected the kickoff. That drive the Giants ended up turning it over on downs.
The second penalty was stupid on his part, but that didn’t have a huge effect either. It was after the whistle so we still kept the first down on the play.
How can you possibly say that Kyle fumbled those balls because of what Vernon did?
VD NOT TO BLAME
VD was just pumped up after some big plays in the most important game of his life! sure he might have went a little overboard with his celebrating but that was just his emotions riding sky high. they had nothing to do with kyle williams making mistakes. i think the moment was just a little to big for williams who seemed to be timid and was making mistakes the whole game, the fumble being the nail in the coffin. i hope he and the whole team learn from this and can come back stronger next year. i still think he has alot of upside to him.
LET'S GO FRISCO!
VD's 2nd penalty killed us.
That drive stalled on the NYG 43 yard line… give us back those 15 yards and we’re in Akers FG range with a 45-46 yd. attempt.
Goldson looking for glory
knocking two easy interceptions away & injuring his own player?
