Who else do you like as a #1 WR . Can we compleat again with the sub par offence we had last Year. Just for laughs WR Moss Colston Crab Morgan Any ideas we could use the help

Randy Moss? NO! Why? We can do better ...

Here’s my desired Niners’ 2012 WR corps:

  1. Dwayne Bowe … Kansas City free agent.
  2. Michael Crabtree.
  3. Joshua Morgan … re-signed to 2-3 year contract by Niners.
  4. Stephen Hill … Georgia Tech WR drafted in 2nd round of April draft.
  5. Kyle Williams.
  6. Ted Ginn … re-signed to 2-3 year contract by Niners with primary duty being KR and PR.

by 49erFanSince1950 on Feb 13, 2012 6:36 PM PST reply actions

Bowe wants 9-10 mil, we would be down to 20, call it 21.

Smith 6-8 call it 6 that’s 15 left, add in Brooks, Costanzo, Goldson, Finn and Morgan and it doesn’t mathematically fit. No on Bowe, simply because its not gonna work cap wise.

Gonna make the WR position relevant again? When?

by rlott#42 on Feb 13, 2012 7:26 PM PST up reply actions

Exactly.

Gotta pay the guys that took us to the NFC championship game this year before we start paying new faces. The other way around is a horrible team killing precedent.

Stevie Johnson is the most bang for our FA buck. We gotta find guys that would be willing to work with us. Guys like Bowe who will find people willing to pay “what they are worth” are not going to be those guys.

Gimme 1 round!

I agree on Stevie

kinda’ hoping we bag him for reasonable money

Alex Smith: 25 or more TD's, 15 or fewer INT's in 2012. I'm not a AS apologist or defender, I'm a believer.

I'd sooner have T.O.

At least T.O. plays every play, unlike Randy “I play when I wanna” Moss.

everyone would admit that Wayne is

a better option…but Wayne can command a real, legitimate contract, while Moss can be had for the bare minimum plus incentives. I’d rather have Wayne, but that’s not the issue at hand. The issue at hand is, if Moss is deemed capable of performing by the powers that be, then, considering waht it will take to sing him (next to nothing), is it worth while to sign him if you need help at WR? How is that answer not YES?.

by salary_cap on Feb 14, 2012 9:48 PM PST up reply actions

Disagree...

Based on Moss’ past, he’s not going to settle for ‘bare minimum’ he knows he was an elite WR and he will push it when it comes time to sign contracts. Incentives are nice, but in the end I highly doubt he would be alright with signing any kind of contract that had less than elite WR payment.

by Chaotic9erFan on Feb 15, 2012 9:25 AM PST up reply actions

Which would be my preference...

IF (that’s a huge IF) the front office wanted to deal with him. But Moss’ past shows us that he usually does not want to deal unles a) he’s got a multi million $ contract and b) he’s got a better than decent shot at going to the SB.

by Chaotic9erFan on Feb 15, 2012 12:25 PM PST up reply actions

If you can get Moss to play

you will have one of the greatest WRs ever. Bordering near the lines of being better than Rice.

Bill Walsh said a player that was once great can be great again. Something along those lines, not an exact quote, but, I think the point can be grasped.

2 years ago he was awful

whether that’s attributable to an actual regression in skills/ability or due to his tendency to “quit” is debatable. The Pats, Vikings, and Titans all dumped him in one season.

It's not like he didn't want to play last season

It’s that he’s washed up. He didn’t retire. 32 individual teams individually looked at him at decided, for whatever reason, no thanks. The same will likely happen this year unless someone gets desperation goggles and that 180 pound bruiser in flannel turns into a slender knockout in heels.

Every time Jamie Dukes says something enlightening and informative about football Jerry Rice and I mount up on our flying grizzly bears and claim pirate treasure from the moon. That's how often it happens.

Randy Moss pisses me the hell off

If he had even remotely consistently applied himself he could have numbers approaching some of Jerry’s records.

Your comment.

Randy Moss pissed me the hell off…blah blah blah, so, can he help the team or not? Just wondering, why so serious? And personal.

Gonna make the WR position relevant again? When?

by rlott#42 on Feb 14, 2012 3:28 PM PST up reply actions

Personal nor all that serious? Not meant to be.

The pisses me off part was tongue in cheek.

I was simply saying as a fan it is frustrating seeing someone with so much talent and skill actually quit at times throughout his career. Especially with how many players give everything they have, but just never make it in the league because they aren’t as physically gifted.

I’m don’t hate him, think he’s a terrible person or has had a useless career, it is just frustrating. And I know when he wants to, he gives full effort and plays as hard as he can, it is just those particular times he just gives up are hard to grasp.

I was just speaking in general about him, but as far as helping the team I think it would be mostly up to him. He is 35, which isn’t young, but better than 40. Assuming he stays in shape and wants to play, which it sounds like, he could be useful. Though I can’t imagine he’d stay interested in the season for the long haul with Alex and with Harbaugh’s conservative system. People criticize Crabtree, but he was always playing hard from what I saw, I wouldn’t expect that from Moss.

who cares about attitudes?

this is the NFL. If a franchise thinks he can still play, then you sign him.

by salary_cap on Feb 14, 2012 9:49 PM PST up reply actions

it's not black and white

Talent plays a big role, but teams likely consider other factors, and rightfully so. Chemistry in the locker room and on the field might not be some end all, be all, but I would be stunned if it wasn’t a factor for teams.

You can't be serious.

His attitude has directly affected his on field play all throughout his career and every single GM in the league who even thinks about signing him this year is going to consider that.

I don’t think he’s really had many locker room issues though, which is kind of surprising.

not at 35 though...

…bottom line, if a franchise thinks he can still play, not signing him for a base salary near the league minimum is foolish, especially if you need help at WR like the Niners do.

by salary_cap on Feb 15, 2012 9:53 AM PST up reply actions

Turns out he didn’t even have a chance to take/reject an offer, cause nobody wanted him. Nobody is gonna pay this guy a base salary of more than $500,000.

If -- and only if -- the niners or any other team thinks he can still play and be a major factor in NFL games,

then it is stupid not to consider him for a minimum base salary, incentive-laden deal. the niners signing Moss to that type of contract — the only contract he will be able to command — is less of risk than, say, signing Alex Smith to a 4 yr deal at close to $10 million per with half of that guaranteed.

by salary_cap on Feb 14, 2012 9:42 PM PST reply actions

And for cheap too, he didn't blow his money like TO

Last time Randy was motivated, he was burning Revis so bad that he had to act like he injured his hamstring. He beat Revis within the first 3 steps, if he still has any bit of that left bring him to the Bay. Plus, one of the best sets of hands ever, makes circus catches like it’s nothing. He doesn’t like the Media, and all was going well until he thought the Pats wouldn’t resign him. Brady and Belichek still say how Moss was a great teammate. About him taking plays off, I’ve never seen him disappear like our receivers did in the NFC Championship game.
