2012 Pebble Beach Celebrity Pro Am: Alex Smith To Serve As Jim Harbaugh's Caddy
Later this morning, the 3M Celebrity Challenge will get going down at Pebble Beach. The Pebble Beach National Pro Am is an annual golf tournament often better known for the Wednesday Celebrity Pro Am that takes place. This year, the 49ers and San Francisco Giants took part in a Tuesday charity shootout that saw Jim Harbaugh, Alex Smith join 49ers legends like Jerry Rice and Dwight Clark in taking down Matt Cain, Will Clark, Mike Krukow and Dave Flemming.
What is most intriguing about today's Celebrity Challenge is that Alex Smith will actually be serving as Jim Harbaugh's caddy. Harbaugh will be partnered with professional Ryan Moore in a group that also includes Matt Cain and professional Matt Bettencourt.
After the 49ers-Giants shootout yesterday, Coach Harbaugh told the waiting media that Alex Smith was as high a priority as anybody on the 49ers roster. He made a similar comment at his end of season press conference so this is not some shock. Add in all this Pebble Beach stuff (apparently even car-pooling together down to Pebble Beach) and this is probably what would have happened last year between the two of them if there had not been a lockout. The 49ers control Smith's rights until the new league year gets going so they can have all the conversation they want.
It is entirely possible something goes haywire and Alex Smith ends up somewhere else. Of course, in my opinion that possibility is somewhere between slim and none, but anything is possible I suppose. Is there really any chance Alex Smith is not back with the 49ers in 2012?

the chances that Smith isn't back are
like you said, slim to none. Unless Smith’s agent doesn’t watch football.
Hopefully Harbaugh is buttering up Smith
And Smith realizes that the 49ers are his only real chance of starting and doing well, therefore he gives a nice home team discount.
Win win situation!
49ers get Smith for cheap!
but seriously here, this is great news, I love the fact that our QB is spending time with the coaches during the offseason, regardless of who the QB is.
Aww man Fooch, thought you would go with this picture..This by far is Caption This worthy!!

The fact that Smith accepted the coach of the year on Harbaugh's behalf
let me know that Smith will be back.
The fact that Smith will be Harbaugh’s caddy let me know Smith will be back for cheap.

Ha. I'd actually like to see a poll on "Do you want Alex Smith to return?"
Not as a divisive thing, although I’m sure it would have some lively debate in the comments. Just to see what the divide actually is. I bet it’d surprise some people. After the clusterjunk the 49ers made of the beginning of his career, I think Alex is finally being embraced by the majority of the faithful. Welcome home, bro!
WWJHD?
We need a new word for them.
Because “Bromance,” is no longer cutting it.

Oh please somebody do this
Alex Smith: 25 or more TD's, 15 or fewer INT's in 2012. I'm not a AS apologist or defender, I'm a believer.
Alex Smith will have a pro bowl year next year.
He was finally able to take the step he needed to propel his career. The step all QB’s take. Usually OB’s take it in there 2nd or 3rd year, but so be it. Next year he will play great. Sign a FA WR and that will help immensely. This I promise you.
Yes
I am feeling the same we you are. The need we need is a lanky receiver, preferably one taller than ’6’2’ that can go up for the ball. Hopefully we manage to snag one in the draft or free agency.
I believe in excellence. I believe in Alex Smith.
