Jerry Rice Discusses Alex Smith’s Inability to Take the 49ers to the Next Level

The following article is a parody. It's a spoof of a front page article written on Mar 7.

49ers all-world wide receiver Jerry Rice is hosting a Nationwide golf tournament next month in Hayward and he took some time this week to chat with the media in a fairly wide-ranging interview.

In the interview, Rice discussed Peyton Manning and how the 49ers should be looking into signing Manning. Jerry Rice is generally considered the greatest wide receiver of all time, so when he says something about the 49er quarterback, it should be taken as gospel truth. After the jump I've cherrypicked his quotations to come up with a worthless piece of faux-journalism. But hey, at least it's provocative and will get people yelling at each other, right?

Would you make a push for Manning?

"I would. If he's a free agent. I think you go for it. A guy of that talent, you've got everything in place. You've got a defense that smacks you in the mouth. You just need a little more out of the offense. That's not knocking what Alex did. (Manning) can take you to a whole different level.

"If he's healthy, he's going to have a chip on his shoulder and he's going to be pissed."

Do you think the 49ers will go after Manning?

"Business is business. You have to."

These are some very interesting critiques to say the least. The most interesting aspect of this discussion is Alex Smith's inability to take the team to the next level. I know Jerry is trying to sugarcoat his obvious knock on what Alex accomplished last year, but Jerry seems to be calling Alex a first round bust.

What are your thoughts on what Jerry Rice had to say about Alex Smith?
