Although free agency is still over two hours away, deals are starting to come fast and furious. The New Orleans Saints handled some important business as they re-signed wide receiver Marques Colston to a five year contract worth a reported $40 million, with $19 million guaranteed. The Saints receiver has a good thing going with Drew Brees and it only makes sense for him to stick around there.
Although the 49ers added Randy Moss last night (at a reported $2.5 million with $1.5 million in incentives per Adam Schefter), they are potentially still in the market for a wide receiver. Mike Wallace and Vincent Jackson could be off the board for the 49ers, but there are still some intriguing options, including guys like Robert Meachem, Mario Mannigham, and of course their own Joshua Morgan. I suggest Wallace might be off the board in part because of the sizable first year salary the 49ers would need to pay him. There is a lot of business to take care of and it is possible the 49ers just won't have the space to front load the deal.
Free agency gets going at 1:00 p.m. pacific. I'll post pertinent rumors where possible, but for now, go ahead and use this as sort of an open thread for free agency news and rumors.
