NFL Free Agents 2012: Brandon Carr, Eric Wright On 49ers Radar, According To Reports

Just when it seemed like we were entering a bit of a 49ers lull in free agency, they are quickly back in the news. Twitter is ablaze with every possible rumor out there and the 49ers have joined in on the fun. Adam Schefter shot out a pair of tweets indicating the 49ers are pursuing free agent cornerbacks Brandon Carr and Eric Wright and Brandon Carr. There is no word on how close anything might be, but with this news and the addition of Perrish Cox, the 49ers would seem to looking at alternatives to Carlos Rogers.

Carr is the bigger name, but both would bring strong athleticism to the cornerback position. Carr was reported to be a sure thing for the Dallas Cowboys, but it is possible that is being held up thanks to the salary cap punishment they received. That could be opening the door for the 49ers to make some noise. And if the 49ers could snatch Carr out from underneath the Cowboys nose? Well, that would be pretty spectacular.

Matt Maiocco tweeted that sources indicated the 49ers are going big after Wright and expect some kind of decision within the next twelve hours. If this crap is dragging past midnight PT, well that will just be quite the pain in the butt, won't it? But, if they can land some cornerback help, I suppose I could live with it. I do believe Tarell Brown and Chris Culliver are exceedingly capable cornerbacks, but adding some serious depth to the position if Rogers walks would be a very good thing.
