After a crazy preliminary rush to start NFL free agency, things have quieted down to a certain extent. There is always that initial rush of players that get deals done fairly quickly in spite of NO tampering ahead of time. Matt Maiocco probably put it best:
Good to see that tampering at the combine was alive and well with these agreements coming within the first hour of free agency.

The 49ers are reportedly starting to get into some discussions with Brandon Carr and Eric Wright, with it sounding like Wright is the one being more heavily pursued. One of our semi-regulars, Bay Area Sports Guy, did a pretty good job at least suggesting Wright as a potential target a few weeks ago. He is no replica of Carlos Rogers, but he might fit modestly into the structure of the 49ers looking for some decent deals with upside.
As free agency eventually settles in for the long haul, the 49ers could once again be waiting to see how the market settles after the first flurry or two. Last year they seemed to wait through two or three flurries before wading in. They have made some moves already, but otherwise are not getting overly aggressive at this point.
The 49ers do still need to add some wide receiver help, but I think it will be a move that takes place after things calm down. When you've got Pierre Garcon getting $42 million with half of that guaranteed, it's not surprising the 49ers are going to wait for the insanity to calm a bit. They have reportedly not been in contact with Robert Meachem or Laurent Robinson, so we'll see if they get into the 49ers plans at all down the road.
Now seems as good a time as any for....
On a side note, jaewong put this together with photoshop. Aside from the fact that I'm hoping he rocks 84 or 88, I'd say this looks pretty sweet.
