Fooch's Note: Per Barrows, the 49ers have expressed some interest to WR Laurent Robinson. So this post seems particularly timely.
I get text messages from ESPN about Football and Baseball. I love it: it's free, reasonably fast, and an awesome distraction. I would recommend you all get it.
Today, though, I got a text and literally yelled at my phone. Vincent Jackson was no longer on the market. Yes, alas, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed him away. I don't know how interested the 49ers actually were in pursuing him as a player, and given how much it cost, I don't know if it would be worth it, but I really thought this guy could be a huge help. I know NN has sort of jumped on the Mike Wallace bandwagon the last few days (and for a lot of good reasons, too), but I always thought Jackson would have been a better fit for the 49ers.
What also really hurts, too, is that, like, every single receiver and their mother were signed today and we got a spore. I'm really not lichen this so far because watching moss grow is pretty dull.
Horrible puns aside, the original point stands: the once bountiful Receiver Free Agent pool is shrinking fast. The Chargers may have lost Vincent Jackson, but they turned right around and got Robert Meachem like lickity split fast. Reggie Wayne decided to join the Andrew Luck bandwagon. Heck, even Josh Morgan is gone (/sheds a solitary, stoic, and yet manly tear). I'll miss the dude. He seemed cool, even if I think he was a bit over-rated.
So, at this point, we have Laurent Robinson, Brandon Lloyd, and maybe Chaz Schilens interested. I'll be honest, I was hoping for something a bit better...
What do you guys think about this quickly closing market? How do we come out better than Joe Hastings?
