I just don't quite understand all the recent news of Peyton and the Niners. The whole Peyton wouldn't mesh with Harbs seemed to make incredible sense. Peyton would need to control the O and Harbs believes in a TEAM that he runs at all levels, seems logical. From the outside it just seems there is just so much risk with Peyton that can really set the team back. All that money and not completely sure just what Peyton can deliver in terms of arm strength.
I don't want to compare it to the Rams getting Namath or dare I say Chiefs getting Joe, but kind of feel like this is a big risk for a team that would have been in the SB if not for Kyle Williams dumb ass. Sure we can say it was lack of WRs, Ginn getting hurt, Victor Cruz abusing Carlos, a lacking O...etc., etc. - bottom line is Giants needed supreme luck to get out of The Stick that night..courtesy of Kyle Williams.
Sure there is that tiny inside voice that sees Manning running an offense our team hasn't seen since the 80's...and with Randy Moss no less and likely another WR from FA or early draft..along with Crabby. That is if Randy Moss even makes the team in training camp.
But lets talk about training camp...or should I say a possible complete and utter media circus. I mean Manning and Moss in training camp along with our INCREDIBLE DEFENSE. How would anybody be able to focus, practice, and prepare with ESPN and NFL network basically camping out with Niners relentlessly throughout those weeks.
Maybe this is just a way to put pressure on Alex to sign, as Harbs and Baalke are simply wise beyond their years.I personally being a fan since 5 years old with Dwight's Catch being the first game I ever watched find this really not practical. The teams like the Jets and Cowboys that are so media circus hungry nowadays always seem to fall on their face in the end. While the Packers, Steelers, and Giants go about their business quietly by avoiding any type of self imposed headlines in order to put together consistent winning seasons over the years.
Do we really want to see the Peyton vs Eli non-stop previews when Niners rematch the Giants next year or do we want to see how we are going to simply exact some revenge and finish the beating our D was initiating that night. I'm just completely perplexed by this whole Niners seriously in the running for Peyton thing springing up, but I guess there is only 1 thing to do and that is support the idea that Harbs and Baalke know what they are doing. If it does come to pass, it sure will be some getting used to seeing the Niners being the focus of every other story coming from the NFL.
I just have to think this whole situation with Alex and the 3 year deal is really playing into this whole Peyton courting, I think the word shocked would be taking it lightly if Peyton was to be leading chants of WHO REALLY DOES IT BETTER THAN US next season.
