This is it, ladies and gentlemen! This is the thread!
Okay, so this may just be a good Saturday thread, in which we can chat about the impact of the Gracchi brothers on the decline of the Late Roman Republic, or whatever. I mean, that is, if we haven't all gotten tired of talking about Peyton Manning at this point. (And I'm serious, guys. If anybody ever wants to talk about Rome or Greece, I am so game...).
But for those of us who want to keep up The Hunt for a Red (and Gold) Manning, head on down to the comment section and sound off with a ping - one ping only, please.
I've had a lot of thoughts about Peyton Manning these last couple of days, especially as it relates to the 49ers. Would I want him on the team? For how long? For how much money? This has been an interesting couple of days in this regard, compounded by the fact that a strong argument can be made that Peyton Manning is a top-ten QB of all time. AND, his career ain't even over! I'm not guaranteeing any form of success - with the age and injury that would be silly. I will say, though, that it sure makes for some interesting drama.
One thing, as 49er fans, we can all agree on is that Manning should not be in the NFC West, unless it's on the 49ers. After finding out that the Cardinals were no longer in the running, I breathed the most intense sigh of relief in human history. I breathed out so much CO2, that the climate of the Earth has been irrevocably changed.
But seriously, it would suck to have him in the division. Big time.
So let's frame our discussion of Peyton in this way for the next few hours of our production of Samuel Beckett's Waiting for Manning: if he can't be on the 49ers, what team would you like Peyton to be on? Denver? Titans? I, personally, think it will be hard to see him not in a Colts uniform and would love to see him finish out his career in Indy. Obviously, that's impossible, but screw reality. That's my answer.
