Plea to Niner Fans

Now that we know where Manning is going, and assuming that Alex Smith returns to the Niners, I send out this plea.

Let's move on. Manning made the decision that felt right for him. It was no disrespect to the Niners. His familiarity with Elway was a huge factor in his decision. In addition, he remains in the AFC, where he's been his entire career.

I hope Niner fans don't start bashing on Alex Smith. The guy made great strides last year with a less than dominate passing attack. Now Smith will have Moss, Manningham, Crabtree, Davis and others to throw to. Now that Manning is out of the picture, the Niners might be able to land Wallace from Pittsburgh, given the dollar implications associated with any Manning deal. The Niner FO and Smith need to kiss and make up, get a deal done, and plan a course to get to the Super Bowl. How many times over the past 3 days did sports pundits say the Niners were Super Bowl contenders? With or without Manning, this team is poised to make a serious run.

Remember, the Niners can certainly strengthen themselves through the draft. Quite possibly, they can get creative, moving up in the draft and getting the guy they REALLY want (DeCastro?).

Those fans that are disappointed should get over it. Those fans who wanted Smith should feel relieved. ALL Niner fans should be sharing one mantra... championship. The pieces are in place to win one without Manning.

Let's just move on.
